  1. I am a novice when it comes to baseball, but have often wondered why baseball players prepare to ‘steal bases’ differently than other athletes? My inquiry has to do with the observation that starting with both feet on the ground slows the initial acceleration of a base runner and penalizes them by about 3'. For example, if the distance between 1st & 2nd were 3' shorter, how would this affect the percentage of stolen bases? vic
