  1. Per Rotoworld.com the Yankees, Dodgers and Halos are the finalist with the Yankees in the lead. If this is the case if the Angels do not get him at least it won't be a team in the AL West. Many reports say he wanted to be in NY, Boston or LA. I think it comes down to the Yankees or Angels and with A-Frauds case going to the federal courts and still keeping the Yankees responsible for his contract might help the Angels chances as the younger Steinbrenners have concerns for the 189 million whereas their father would never have cared. Seems like answer might not go to the 24th.
  2. Weaver showed loyalty to the Angels and what do we fans do we talk about trading him. Shaking my head right now. Loyalty has to be two ways and the Angels better not even come to Weaver and request him to waive his NTC. What a slap in the face when he could have waited for free agency and signed for a whole lot more. He is not a ace anymore but he is a smart pitcher that knows how to get batters out. Location, change of speeds and pitch selection is how he gets it done. He doesn't need his 92+ fastball to get batters out.
  3. Bagwell Biggio Glavine Maddux Martinez Piazza Morris Schilling Smith Thomas
  4. The Angels of this century have been a competitive team that expectations are high and understandably so. Other years in past only if you were a homer did you think the Angels can win. For me I am grateful that Mr. Moreno does attempt to put a winning product out there and ticket prices are still reasonable even at the team payroll being at the all time high. Most owners would have increased ticket prices through the roof. Going through the 80's and 90's was hard being Angels fan. That made 2002 that much better. Beating the Red Sox and sweeping them in the playoffs was my second favorite Angels moment. Finally getting the monkey of the Angels back. 1986 was the hardest year. Most fans blame Moore but Dave Henderson hit a very good pitch. I blame DeCinces for popping up with runner on third and less than 2 outs where a simple sac fly would have got the Angels and the cowboy to the World Series. The Angels still had 2 games that they could have won after that so it was really a team loss when you look at it. It just wasn't meant to be that year.
  5. Probably all teams posted the $20 million bid since if you don't sign him you don't pay it. Doesn't hurt to put in bid. If he doesn't sign by January 24 then he can not sign and will not play in MLB in 2014
  6. Did Tim Salmon say he was the greatest Angel or something? He was a dedicated Angel player probably the best player never to play in a all star game. He was loyal and led the team to the only World Series championship they have ever won. Trout hasn't even sniffed the playoffs yet. So lets not compare a two year player to a retired halo. Have to respect Tim Salmon and I bet you Mike Trout would say the same. Is Tim Salmon a hall of famer... No.... Was he a good baseball player hell yes he was. Sucked he always started the years poorly because that caused him no all star games but I'm sure like me glad he was a better 2nd half player because if he wasn't the Angels still would have won a World Series.
  7. On January 24. Rumors will say he is close with the Yankees. Then the dodgers, rangers and so on and so on. The websites are not in the meetings and on January 24 we will all know where Tanaka signs. The ones that really care and hate seeing this drag out is pitchers like Garza, Arroyo, Jimenez and Santana because none of them will get an offer before because those same teams want Tanaka first. The more Tanaka does get will drive the price of for the level B pitchers however and make it be true that patience is a value.
  8. You do not need to throw 100 to get a batter out if you have pitches behind it. Keeping hitters off balance and being able to throw a strike on a 2-0 count with off speed pitch is all you need. Pitching is about getting ahead on the count. Strike one is the most important pitch. Tanaka can and he is a pitcher and not a thrower so even if he loses velocity like Weaver has I believe he will still be successful in the MLB. I would rather have him on the Angels than have to face him pitching against the Angels. Free agents is like Vegas you roll the dice and hope for the best. No matter what they have done in the past doesn't mean they will again. Pujols has been good but so far he hasn't performed like he did in St.Louis. Everyone of us would have signed Pujols if honest with yourself.
  9. I agree. This guy has good stuff and is a bulldog. Pitched complete game NBS series game 6 and pitched and got the save the day in game 7 after pitching 160 pitches the day before. Imagine throwing 160 pitches in the MLB and pitch counts. This guy is a complete game guy and will save bullpen on most part of the game he pitches. He will need the least from the bullpen than other pitcher which will make the bullpen stronger and we have improved the bullpen this off season as well. Tanaka is a must get. Not only from helping the Angels but ensuring he does not sign with Seattle or Texas and make them stronger.
  10. This guy has good stuff and no worries of injuries. The Angels need to get him. He has the capabilities of being the ace. Paying someone more than Weaver was A choice Weaver made and I respect that because he was right about do you need more? He has Boras as a agent and he gave a great deal to the Angels. I would have loved to be in the office of Boras when Weaver told him take that offer and Boras said I can get you double and Weaver said no I want to stay with the Halos. Garza is good but #3 at best with injuries. Texas and Oakland and Seattle will be strong competitors. Seattle still iffy on since hitters die in that ballpark. The Angels need to get an ace pitcher as Weaver is a solid 2 in my opinion.
  11. I think the Angels have to go all in on Tanaka if he is posted. This guy started game six I believe in the NPS world series and then pitched in the next game. Sounds like a warrior to me that wants the ball in the big game and he does want to come and show what he can do in the MLB. Hopefully they post him but they have the right not to. If they don't it might affect the players they are able to sign afterwards knowing they block players.
  12. All I was trying to say is that baseball players no matter how old you are strike out. Does not mean that they didn't try but fans think if a pro player strikes out its because he didn't try and not because he is going against a pro pitcher that got to the majors because he can strike batters out or just get them out. Why boo them. Is that going to get him to get a hit the next time? Think about it and you are a player and you just struck out and your home fans boo you. Is that going to give you confidence the next time up? It's not and instead of supporting your player by lets get them next time you boo and say you suck and that carries to your next at bat and the slump continues. Take it as you want I just think positive energy is better and shows good sportsmanship to the kids at the stadium.
  13. Hello fellow Angels fans, I have been a fan since 1979. Gone through a lot of bad years and some disappointing years. 2002 was incredible. I can say that I believe in our owner and our management. Last few years haven't been what they thought it would be but everyone was excited when the Angels signed Pujols and Wilson 2 years ago. Last year they signed Hamilton instead of Grienke and to be honest paying a pitcher that plays 1 out of 5 days more than a position player all I know if I'm Trout and the Angels sign Grienke for the contract he received from the Dodgers I come and say I want five times more because Im on the field everyday making a difference not just every fifth day. Not all position players can say this but Trout could and the Angels figured a line up featuring Trout Pujols and Hamilton that anyone of use could go out there and pitch and still have a chance to win. We do not need to win 1-0 ballgames as we used to. Whether the Angels win or lose there will always be my team. Another thing that bothers me is when we boo our own players. Like booing them is going to make them perform better. My opinion is we as fans should not know the money the players make. I could care less. I enjoy baseball and unless I'm working in the front office for a sports team in charge of the team budget I do not need to know. True fans will never boo their team. they have the right to but they should not. Think of it this way for the adults if your kid is out there playing little league and he tries really hard but he strikes out a lot and his own teams parents are booing him wouldn't that make you mad. You think these players don't care they do. They don't like striking out who would? for those that say they get paid so they don't care? They are working for their next contract so for that reason they do? They spend like the money they make just like we all do so don't think just because they make millions they have money. Most of them didn't finish college and don't have any idea how to finance their money. When you go to the BIG A please cheer the Angels on. The fans can make a difference. They are all pro baseball players and skill is there and the rest is mental and good positive energy goes along way. This is just one fans opinion. Go Angels and Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. See you at the Big A.
