  1. Keep Trout, Richards, and Skaggs. Everyone else should be in play. For example, I'd trade Calhoun in a second for someone like Carlos Carrasco and use the pitching depth to get younger, cheaper, and better position players. I'd be in favor of all sorts of weird shit. Collect some prospects from trading and paying down Weaver and Wilson and flip them to get what we need. I'd also tell those two kids at third that this is their position to lose. Better player wins. Loser goes to Salt Lake. There's always an Alberto Callaspo somewhere that can be gotten. (yes, "gotten".) Eppler needs to send out the email: "I'm comin' and Hell's coming with me!"
  2. I did not address the shootings in San Bernardino at all in class. I thought about it, but also thought it's better not to touch it and let parents deal with it. It's too soon and raw for youngsters, I think.
  3. Totally the way I feel right now. The gym calls.
  4. I don't think he'd get 5 years, but I could see Freese with a three year deal. Still agree that 1/15 would have been worth it. Beyond that, I wouldn't expect EpPler to announce that he'd go over the tax limit. Might make negotiations more difficult.
  5. I really have nothing to contribute here, but I just want to say thanks for all of the sensible ideas and their rebuttals. I appreciate the information on the current laws to obtaining firearms. I'm just as confused and frustrated as before I read this thread. That's not anyone's fault, but rather the complexity of the issue. Stay safe, all.
  6. I'm not seeing any pop ups or redirects. I see ads at the top of the Forum pages but nothing intrusive. I am using a macbook and an iphone, both current and up to date. Macbook and Firefox; iphone and Safari. This problem sounds like a bugger!
  7. I want a Fister then a Furbush followed by a Smarjizjziza. Seriously, why not a Samardzija? Low mileage on his arm, probably a decent length contract with a decent dollar amount. If I recall, he's really only played for teams that kinda "sucked"? Makes his win totals and ERA explainable. Just a thought...
  8. As for Price, the market determines his value. What I like about this, is that it AUTOMATICALLY inflates the values of all of our pitchers and makes them a more palatable choice than dropping wads of cash. Thus, the Angels can, and should, ask for more or better prospects in return for any pitcher, including Wilson.
  9. True. "Entertainers" make way too much money, but society allows it, so whatcha gonna do? I absolutely hate that my students know more about video games and Kardashians than proper grammar, but until we properly value education as a society, nothing's gonna change.
  10. No way. The goal should be to get younger, MORE athletic and cut some costs.
  11. I believe Wilson still has great value. If I recall correctly, he had surgery to clean out some "floating bodies" in his elbow. He was fine the first time he had this done. If the Angels pay down enough of the contract, somone WILL bite. The key is pay down enough to extract a real prospect in return. If it means paying 65-70% of the contract, so be it. This is the only way to restock the farm and get some depth.
  12. Thanks for the response. If I understand correctly, the classes in high school are typically AP classes, correct? If a student scores a 3 or 4, they get college credit for that class. Is that correct?
  13. You were in an IB program in high school? I'm curious... We have an IB track at our school (I don't teach this track.) I've always wondered whether you think that IB helped you to get into the college and career you chose. As I'm sure you know, IB is a program that schools pay for and I wonder what the true "benefits" are for the student. I'll take your response of the air, thanks.
  14. Last year, I had my eighth grade students write an argument essay on the Washington "Redskins" and whether or not it was a racist nickname. They did a very good job supporting their positions with evidence from the articles and research I supplied, as well as others they found on their own. I believe that it is an inappropriate term based on its origin.
  15. Paranoia. Hasty Generalization. Way to go, great thinkers of the United States!
  16. At least he's better lookin' than Aybar. Dude gave me the creeps.
  17. I'm Mexican-American and I don't give a **** about their costume. Doesn't offend me. Neither my grandfather, father, nor I have EVER worn a sombrero, had a huge mustache, and wore pancho and took long naps in the heat of the day. It's a cultural stereotype, but why would making fun of that stereotype offend me? I'm glad I have some little Asian girl to tell me what should and should not be offiensive to me. Idoit. I DO, however, LOVE the Urban Sombrero. I needs me one.
  18. Back issues? Honestly, I don't remember any back issues the last two years. All I remember is the broken fingers.
  19. Solid, well-written email. It's a shame the kids can't see the bigger issue.
