  1. Darin Erstad and Tim Salmon for hitting/fielding. And then Nolan Ryan when i tried very unsuccessfully to pitch. Edit: I remember after reading a book about Nolan Ryan, I was in my room and got really pumped about pitching. It was raining outside so i stood in the corner of my room, piled up pillows in the opposite corner on my bed and pitched at them. Needless to say, I eventually missed and busted a hole in my wall haha
  2. Also, i agree its lame to boo your team, regardless of the player. However, your reasoning for all players caring doesn't really hold. Many players, like say Hamilton, have huge contracts that they are retiring upon completion. They already worked for their final contract.
  3. Since i can remember. Went to my first game at 2 weeks old to the 1986 playoffs against the Red Sox and have been to at least 3 games a year since I was born.
  4. No thank you. Not on his almost guaranteed bad year.
  5. I'm in Japan right now and have been asking everyone I can (through my Japanese speaking friend) for their opinion on the matter since I think their speculation has slightly more merit. The Yankees seem to be the consensus as to where they think he wants to go. Still all speculation, but thought it was interesting.
  6. If that were true then Hunter, Haren, Morales and Santana would still be on the angels and Hamilton would be sucking elsewhere.
  7. Patriots Steelers Falcons Buccaneers Chiefs Seahawks Bengals Dolphins Lions Colts 49ers Rams Giants Redskins Texans
  8. Yeah, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I was trying to think of a good argument before this post, but your right. Much too subjective of a topic.
  9. Before last season, Haren had 5 straight seasons of 200+ IP and 200 K's, but i never have considered him an ace
  10. Yeah i get that, but its just too soon to really know. Most pitchers, even aces, have a bad year here and there. Kershaw its the only one with at least 5 years under his belt who hasn't really had a bad year after establishing himself (just the one bad first season he pitched).
  11. I guess we just have different views on what an ace is. Most of those guys who actually have some years under their belt have struggled as much or worse then weaver has this year in previous seasons. Kershaw is the only consistent ace out there. Hernandez ERA/WHIP the past 3 years: 2011: 3.47/1.220 2012: 3.06/1.142 2013: 3.01/1.132 And then Weaver: 2011: 2.41/1.010 2012: 2.81/1.018 2013: 3.30/1.130 I just don't see how having one "bad" year eliminates him from being an ace. Was Ervin Santana an ace earlier this year? Where do you draw the line at "right now is doing better"? Half a season? Their last game? I just think its waaaaaaay too soon to say he isn't an ace anymore. Especially when half the guys you named have had worse seasons then he's having in the past few years or haven't even been pitching for a few years.
  12. I'm still waiting to see the top ten starting pitchers better then weaver period. And not a list of first year pitchers (Harvey and Fernandez) and having a good year pitchers (Scherzer).
  13. I just laugh at you. Harvey and Fernandez havn't even posted a full season yet so that is ridiculous to even include them in the conversation. Scherzer has never posted an ERA below 3 (career 3.7, putting him at 22 among active starters). And Weaver has thrown more innings then Scherzer every season except for last season by 2 or 3 innings. And he is right around the same number of innings pitched as Price. Felix Hernandez is the only one you named who averages more innings then Weaver. Have you watched weaver before this year? When he consistently went into the 8th and 9th innings. What someone has done for one season doesn't qualify or disqualify them from being an ace.
  14. If we define an ace as "someone as good as Kershaw", then Kershaw is the only ace in baseball. Nobody is as good as Kershaw, especially this year. Weaver has been one of the top 5 most dominant pitchers the past 3 years, but has "struggled" a bit this year even though he is still posting good numbers overall. Not to mention he is in the top 10 amongst active pitchers in just about every category for career numbers including ERA, BAA, WHIP, win/loss %. Felix Hernandez had 5 starts last year where he gave up 4 earned runs, 3 where he gave up 5 ER, 2 where he gave up 6 ER, and 2 where he gave up 7 ER. That's 12/32 times he gave up 4 or more runs. In the past 4 games he's had a game he gave up 8 and a game he gave up 5, while his other two starts were pretty solid, much like weaver over his last 4. Yet Felix Hernandez is unanimously considered an ace, but weaver is not. OK
