  1. I think the make one “significant” move and two “moderate moves.” The sign I can’t move will be a decent relief pitcher or shortstop, and the moderate moves will be relievers.
  2. So, I deduce from what you are saying that Sandoval and Detmers are not number 3 or 4 guys in a rotation. That necessarily means you think they are 1s or 2s. While reasonable minds can perhaps disagree on Sandoval being a number 2, there is no way Detmers is. Hopefully he gets there eventually, but he is not there yet.
  3. I am not ignoring anything. Sandoval is absolutely trending the right way. And he is still young and could get better. In 10 months, I might be ready to declare him a number 2. I just don’t think he is there yet. IMO, he is a good number 3. Of course, there is no definition of what constitutes a number 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 pitcher. So I recognize other people can see things differently and aren’t necessarily wrong.
  4. This is very true. It certainly applies to my thinking. But that being said, while we have much better depth than in years’ past, it is almost all unproven.
  5. This is the kind of thinking that over-estimates a team’s success and then causes one to scratch their head when the team goes 70-92 for yet another losing season. Sandoval was great last year. Prior to last year though, he had a career ERA+ of 103. Detmers was very good last year, especially for his age. But still managed only a 106 ERA+ and was bad enough to get demoted mid-season. And you think these two qualify as 2 or better starters? Who is the one being ignorant here?
  6. I like Sandoval a lot. But I want to see a bit more from him - both in terms of years of track record and ability to go deep into games - before anointing him more than a #3. Anderson is not better than a #3, despite his success last year. And I say that from the perspective of someone who likes the signing a whole lot. Ohtani is a legit #1. This rotation has the makings to be very good. Detmers made huge gains last year, and Suarez is under-rated. But the rotation is one injury and regression from one guy away from being forced to rely on Barria and Davidson as two-thirds of the rotation.
  7. They have an ace and then four guys who all profile as 3/4 guys. Personally, I think that in order to be truly competitive, they need another ace to go along with Ohtani.
  8. This is a good point. You can’t just look at what the Angels have done to improve, you have to look at what other teams have done as well. Because ultimately, they have to beat those other teams. Angels need more talent to compete - a shortstop, and preferably an ace. Going to be hard to get one of those, let alone both.
  9. Neto could probably move to second base, or even the outfield.
  10. This was my thought as well. I think history will judge Eppler poorly for the job he did as GM. He not only did a bad job in free agency, he whiffed massively in the drafts. Adell, Adams, Wilson - all proved to be terrible selections. And for an organization that couldn’t afford to screw up their drafts, wasting first round picks on these three was especially harmful.
  11. I know it won’t happen, but this lineup would be totally transformed, and look potentially elite, with one of the top three shortstops. Imagine a top five of Turner, Ohtani, Trout, Rendon and Renfroe. That’s a top five that would potentially be the best in baseball, with a bottom four that wouldn’t be too bad either (Ward, Urshela/Walsh, Rengifo and O’Hoppe). And with five competent starting pitchers, that would be the foundation for a very good team.
  12. Gallo would be a good potential rebound candidate, and probably at an affordable price. But if he bombs again (the most likely scenario), he is basically just an expensive version of Adell.
  13. Nimmo would anchor the lineup and fill the biggest position of need. He could really change the complexion of the team. And if you get him, I think it lessens the need to get a good shortstop. I also think this team needs to add another starting pitcher - preferably a guy with ability to dominate a game (as opposed to another innings eater).
  14. This is a great move, especially if he is athletic enough to play infield positions other than third base.
  15. I like this move. At worst, Anderson should provide league average innings and stay healthy. At best, he pitches like a number 2/3 for a fraction of the price. It is nice knowing there are now five legitimate starters pencilled in for next year.
  16. And independents. I was Republican my whole life, until about five years ago. I switched to unaffiliated. I will, first and foremost, vote against Trump and everyone who thinks like him. Then, I will vote to punish a Republican Party I have grown to despise, regardless of whether the candidate is in the likeness of Trump. These are my voting motivations. Once the party returns to normalcy, I will consider voting for its candidates again, because I lean right on more issues (I actually did vote for the Republican AG since democrats are so horrible on crime, punishment, and policing - issues in which I am very conservative).
  17. And I guess nothing stops the team from then using the shortstop depth to fill other positions of need. But it just seems so much more prudent to pursue those positions of actual need. I am guessing that for the cost of a Trea Turner, a team could sign both Nimmo and Rodon (not that I actually think the angels will be in the market for any of these guys).
  18. It makes no sense to pursue one of the big four shortstop free agents. The one position in which this organization actually has depth - and lots of it - is shortstop. Use the money instead to get an outfielder (we have no depth there at all) and pitching. And then let Fletcher, Rengifo, Soto, and Neto (and eventually Paris) battle for the middle infield spots.
  19. Nimmo is my top choice this off-season. I actually think this team could compete next year with (1) Nimmo, (2) one very good starting pitching addition (Rodon) and (3) a healthy Trout and Rendon.
  20. I agree. But only because of an absence of desire to spend. They can spend that and I believe still be under the cap.
  21. Not all these guys of course. But I think Nimmo, Rodon, and one of Bassitt/Anderson/Stripling would make this team a contender. That’s a ton of money to spend and I know they won’t do it, but it’s also not a totally unrealistic amount.
  22. I would target Nimmo, Rodon, Bassitt, Stripling, Tyler Anderson, Rizzo, and Segura.
  23. What can the warthog do? I hear great things about it, but I don’t have the military knowledge to understand why it is superior to other planes. What could it accomplish that perhaps other weapons cannot?
  24. Time to send Ukraine long range missiles. Let them start shooting at real Russian targets (finish off the bridge, start hitting the Black Sea fleet, etc.).
