  1. This is great. It’s hard to guess what he will do this year, but if it’s anything like what he did last year, he will be a huge addition to the staff.
  2. I think they challenge the Dodgers for the division. The Dodgers lost so much talent that they failed to replace. I could see them dropping to 90-95 wins, and that might be where the Padres end up as well.
  3. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to grab another starter at this point. The only options - a guy like Wacha, for example - won’t move the needle much beyond the internal options. The money would be better spent on getting two of the available pen arms.
  4. Our farm is weak. We have two good position prospects above low A. That would be horrific if not for the seemingly strong pitching depth. But it’s good to see Law doesn’t think we are at the very bottom.
  5. I am confident Perry gets another arm in the next few weeks. And a guy like Chafin or Moore would go a long way toward improving the pen.
  6. I am as pro law enforcement as one can be. Brother in law is a swap officer. 99.9 percent of cops are great. The bad actions of a few aren’t indicative of the rest. But these fuckers deserve to fry. This incident was horrific.
  7. Give them everything. Tanks, planes, long range missiles. End Russia.
  8. Does this upset you as much as it upsets me? What a stupid decision to discontinue that thing. My Del taco consumption has dropped like 80 percent the last six months.
  9. This honestly doesn’t bother me all that much. The devil you know. And at least this one spends money.
  10. Absolutely, but why would the Red Sox give any consideration to something like this? I have to assume Houck’s trade value is far more than Rengifo’s.
  11. I have long wondered why there isn’t any baseball talent that comes from Mexico. They play baseball in Mexico, they have a large population to draw from (a big potential talent pool), and Mexico seemingly has more financial resources than many other Latin countries (which should result in development of talent). Why doesn’t Mexico produce more baseball players?
  12. Agreed. I have always felt the guy was pretty consistently praised for his work ethic and attitude. @Tayloris reaching on this.
  13. I would have preferred an option with more upside, as I am guessing Moniak can perform as well as this guy. But he is costing barely more than league minimum, so no real risk here.
  14. This is a brilliant post. I’m not sure you get the credit you deserve. If you were a baseball player, you’d be Stan Musial. Nobody every really talks about Stan, but he is 11th in all time WAR. Quietly, you get the job done day in and day out.
  15. Yep, he was a 5-WAR player last year and he is cheap the next two. He will cost a lot to acquire.
  16. Can you give me some sleeping tips? I’m on my fifth consecutive night of a sleeping aid (Benadryl or melatonin) and can’t seem to get tired naturally. But if you are drinking five cups of coffee after dinner, I presume you have figured out how to get tired. Tips?
  17. I think this is accurate. He looks so incredibly lost in the outfield that I don’t see how he ever becomes even an average defender.
  18. You want the guy to succeed. He seems like a tremendously hard worker, and also someone who is humble and trying to take advantage of his opportunity. And so much damn talent.
  19. My thoughts exactly. I think a Wacha or Cueto at $9-10 mil is more effective than two $4.5 mil relievers.
  20. Yep. He will have an expert who will testify that had he continued performing at his current level, he would have earned X amount over the remainder of his career. Given that he would have been a free agent while still south of 30, it could be assumed that he might have earned another $100 mil plus had he not OD’ed. So yeah, damages will be large.
  21. With the caveat that I am not a general liability, personal injury attorney, it is the family’s burden to show that the Angels’ negligence caused/contributed to his death. But then if the Angels can prove that Skaggs himself was partially responsible (which should be very easy to do), then the Angels could get a damages offset. For example, suppose the jury finds the Angels 60 percent negligent and Skaggs 40 percent, and awards $100 million in damages, the Angels would be liable for $60 million. But I would agree with whomever on here said this will settle. I would be shocked if it doesn’t. Both sides have too much to lose going to trial.
  22. I think the Angels can simply assert a defense - which I am sure they did - of comparative negligence. That should serve to reduce any damages award by whatever percentage of fault is deemed attributable to Skaggs himself. I don’t see how they can assert any viable claim against other members of his family.
  23. Exactly what I was thinking - the first name that came to mind. He put up a 108 OPS+ his first five seasons, capped by his massive breakout year at age 26. Then he never had another even 100 OPS+ season and was at 82 for the remainder of his career.
  24. Cals is far more successful than me. He no longer has to go to court. He has people who do that for him.
