  1. You aren’t necessarily wrong, but of course that won’t happen. So since it won’t happen, we might as well get the most for our money. And we do kind of need to be the world police. It would be hugely problematic to U.S. interests if we allowed Russia to overrun Europe, China to overrun Taiwan, and Iran or the Arab nations to destroy Israel.
  2. We spend like a trillion a year on the defense industry. Why not put that money to good use by killing enemies and weakening adversaries (as long as we don’t help Ukraine, of course, because we love Putin!).
  3. Do you disagree with that statement? Disprove it.
  4. It’s as much his as it is Biden’s. Trump, in fact, dumped far more government money into the economy than has Biden (and therefore arguable deserves more blame for inflation, right?).
  5. The team goes 68-94 - their worst season since 1994.
  6. Yes, because they have been so active the last five years (in fact, I think they have been dormant since DJT eliminated them on January 21, 2017).
  7. Snell and JD Martinez would turn this team from a fourth place team to a potential second place team, which means they could be competitive for a wild card spot.
  8. Blarg: first, I am not a democrat. Never have been and never will be. Second, I don’t want Joe Biden to be president the next four years. He isn’t mentally fit now - I can’t imagine how bad it will be in four years. Third, there are two candidates and only two candidates, so it isn’t like any Biden “supporters” have a menu of options to choose from. And fourth, both of our options are senile, demented, and unfit for office. But Biden, at least, is not as dishonest, narcissistic, and ill-intentioned as Trump. Do you really not see this? Do you actually think Trump is a better option than Biden? On what do you base that opinion? You seem like a smart enough guy to me that you should not be fooled by Trump.
  9. Not sure if I am misunderstanding you here, but the republicans absolutely do want Trump. They wanted him in 2016, in 2020, and now again in 2024. If they didn’t want him, they wouldn’t be on the verge of making him their nominee. Perhaps what you mean is that deep down, establishment republicans don’t want him. Guys like McConnell. You might be right, but almost all of those people are too chicken shit to do anything about it. And the ones who aren’t chicken shit - Cheney, Romney, Kinzinger - have been driven out of the party (because the party, on the whole, worships Trump). The sad truth is that today’s Republican Party is comprised largely of ultra conservative religious folks and dim-witted morons. These people are blinded by their love of “God,” their hatred of anyone in the middle/left, and their low IQs. This makes them especially susceptible to being fooled by Trump.
  10. There is a lot of free agent talent out there still. If the team were willing to spend, they could absolutely still grab a few guys and have a good team (at least on paper). Think about how much better this team would look if it added Snell, JD Martinez, and Lorenzen.
  11. I know better than to tell you that you are wrong (because sadly, you might be right). But keep in mind that Trump lost, by nearly five percent, as an incumbent during a time of national crisis. That’s pretty remarkable. And it’s only been bad shit for him ever since. On top of that, the economy is strong and improving. The odds are, in my opinion, pretty strongly in Biden’s favor.
  12. Imagine how you guys are going to like him when he is still president four years from now. If you think his brain is soft now, imagine him at 85. And yet your dumb ass party is doing everything in their power to make that happen by putting up Trump again.
  13. I think that is the case in California. Maybe New York too (I assume that is where this suit is venued). I think you have to put up a bond equivalent to the judgment, or maybe even more than the judgment. Also, I believe in this case the jury awarded something like 15 mil in compensatory damages and 65 in punitive damages. That ratio is constitutional and fully lawful. So unless an appeals court finds the amount of compensatory damages wasn’t justified by the evidence, the punitive damages award should stand.
  14. At this point I think it’s more likely that breaking news pertaining to the Angels will be less of the “Angels to sign Blake Snell” and more along the lines “(insert name) has deal in place to buy Angels from Arte Moreno.”
  15. I don’t know how accurate this is. Keep in mind, the secret service has to log all his trips. But I’m not arguing about Clinton’s morality (or lack thereof). My original point was that the same Republican Party that impeached Clinton for lying about sex will forgive literally anything Trump does. It’s remarkably hypocritical and pathetic. And it’s going to be hilarious when they nominate him again this year, and then he loses to an 82 year old Biden. Imagine how good this forum is going to be in 4 years when 86 year old Biden is still president and the Republicans nominate Trump again.
  16. Also, the impeachment comment absolutely holds true still.
  17. There hasn’t been a shred of evidence that Clinton did anything other than exercise bad judgment (real shocker there).
  18. What is inaccurate about it?
  19. I mean, the guy has won two Cy Young awards, including last year. I don’t think he would be the worst addition to the team. In fact, I am reasonably confident he would outperform every single other starter we have.
  20. I clicked on this thread only because I wanted to see @calsresponse. I am disappointed thus far.
  21. I think JD Martinez plus a top arm (Burnes, Snell) would go a long way toward replacing Shohei’s production. I’d love to know the cost to acquire Eloy Jimenez. And an arm like Flaherty would make a lot of sense and shouldn’t be terribly cost prohibitive. It’s not inconceivable that this team could be good on paper (health permitting) with just a few right moves. But it will require spending.
  22. I have read extensively about this trade and still have no clue how the money shakes out. Is that because I am an idiot (very likely) or because it hasn’t fully been released? How does this trade benefit the Angels. For all their faults, Stassi and Fletcher are at least serviceable depth pieces.
  23. I am honestly fine with whatever he does. I’d love him back, but I know it likely isn’t the best use of limited resources. And the last half of the contract will suck. This is a lot like the Pujols situation IMO.
