  1. I don’t get what Robert Louis Stevenson does for us- maybe he’ll write his next great novel in the…pen.
  2. Draft Lottery is this Tuesday, Dec. 5. Hopefully a top-3 pick is on the way. Maybe by the time the draft rolls around there will be some college pitchers ready to step into the rotation.
  3. Now that he’s closer to Hollywood, we should see more of Ron Washington in his role as Moff Gideon
  4. I wouldn’t have thought it was possible, but if this team keeps up the way they’re going, we’ll have a decent chance at getting the #1 pick in next year’s draft! By good chance- I’m talking 10% or higher! But seriously- maybe there’s a Ken Griffey Jr. in this draft! Or even better- maybe the next Phil Nevin! The good part there is is that Phil can mentor him about being a failed prospect here and then advise him that all he needs is a change of scenery to succeed in life. it’s an exciting time to be an Angels fan- keep losing for that pick!
  5. None of the prospects we gave up is a Hall of Famer, - I’ve come around to the position that if these moves give Trout and Ohtani a little better chance to go to the playoffs together then it’s worth it even if just for the entertainment value. I think the biggest problem has been the injuries. If there had even been half as many as we’ve had, I think the trades might look different. Not only that, but there are still 2 months left which means even more chance of injuries so we need all the semi solid major league depth we can get. Sorry, Jeremiah Jackson, Quero, Crow etc aren’t going to help us make the playoffs and won’t help us in the playoffs.
  6. Perry needs to call up the Utah Jazz ASAP to get permission for Danny Ainge to be a special advisor on this trade
  7. He’s not just a 3B- he played about 20 games in LF last year along with some games at 1B. He would play left.
  8. So if I’m understanding most of you correctly, even if we are able to sign Keuchel or Ryu, you want no part of trading for Kris Bryant, even if we are able to get Upton to waive his no trade?
  9. I still have concerns about pitching overall, but I think having added Keuchel or Ryu along with Bundy and Ohtani coming back dramatically improves pitching and gets us into the playoffs. We can look at adding more pitching at the deadline instead of playing chicken with other teams. What it really allows the team to do keep our trade chips until the Bryant grievance is resolved and we see if he has one or 2 years left- either way we go get him. The Cubs will want MLB ready players as they are still in contention and the Angels seem to be a good match. It would require them or someone to take on Upton as KB would be in LF. He is one of the few players I’d trade Brandon Marsh for and we could include players such as Rengifo and possibly one of Sandoval, Barria or Suarez. Obviously it won’t be as much returning if Bryant only ends up with a year left. I think Bryant would have a good chance to re-sign, but even if he doesn’t, this is the type of move you make if you are going for championships. Look at this lineup 1. Fletcher 2B 2. Rendon 3B 3. Trout CF 4. Bryant LF 5. Ohtani DH 6. Adell RF 7. Pujols 1B 8. Simmons SS 9. Stassi C
  10. I don’t think Price would be the disaster everyone thinks- he wasn’t horrible last year- 1.9 war- I believe that’s better than any of our pitchers last year- pitchers are very fickle things- Maddon has a track record with Price- depending on the “price” we have to pay, it could work out better for us than Cole in the long run. Oh- I also think we get Kris Bryant now- another former Maddon player.
  11. I think it could get done without Adell- if we could do that and sign Cole, we’re essentially adding Bryant, Cole, Adell and Ohtani the pitcher- that’s not a bad jump start to get us to the playoffs and then anything can happen as we saw with the Nationals.
  12. I’d like to see a trade for Kris Bryant- makes too much sense. He’s not a FA for 2 years, which *happens* to coincide with the end of Albert’s contract. We’ve been needing a 3B for a long time- this gives us another star bat. Everyone knows he’s not re-signing with the Cubs, maybe Joe can show him that LA is the place for him long-term.
  13. Nice article about Wilson- kid just wants to win https://amp.newsobserver.com/sports/article230978473.html
  14. This may be old news, but I hadn’t seen it yet- according to MLB The Show simulations, we’re the only team that Harper wins WS with in 2019 https://www.mlb.com/cut4/bryce-harper-mlb-the-show-simulations/c-302869584
  15. I wonder if Harper would accept a backloaded contract? Seems like all we’d need is for him to accept $15-20 million the first couple years until Albert comes off the books. If that pushes us to a World Series win, it may even prompt Pujols to retire on a high note.
  16. I heard a thought on the radio here in Chicago that I’d like to see- seems like it would fit Harper best- Harper takes a 1 year deal for $40 million. He’s young enough to do this- be a mercenary for a few years and go to the team that he can help to the WS.
  17. This is what I read about Puig and Pujols: https://www.stltoday.com/sports/columns/jeff-gordon/tipsheet-puig-takes-pujols-advice-to-heart/article_51ccea86-1c4f-538b-8801-de53c3eb5c39.html
  18. I seem to remember reading about him having a really good relationship with Pujols. If Albert can help him be consistent, I’m down.
  19. Assuming Richards makes it back to form and Ohtani is what we hope he is, an Arrieta, Richards, Ohtani rotation in the playoffs looks pretty good. Also, if we sign Arrieta, then it really gives us an opportunity to trade a pitcher or two that Eppler and the scouting department aren’t as high on as we might be.
  20. Our lineup is much improved, but it’s still not as good as the Astros or Yankees and their pitching is much better. There are huge questions about every single starting pitcher on our roster. Do you really think Richards or Heaney or Shoemaker have a chance in the playoffs against Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton? Or against Altuve and Correa? Let’s remember- the Astros have been there- done that now. Their playoff and WS experience is huge. I don’t want to just be happy to reach the playoffs- I remember how disappointed I was in 2005 and 2009 and getting swept by the Royals in 2014. If we’re going to the playoffs, let’s have a chance to win. If we don’t get Arrieta now, we’ll have to give up some of our potentially great minor leaguers to try to get someone like Arrieta at the trade deadline so we can be competitive in the playoffs.
  21. We’re going to have to deal with Boras at some point or another- if we think we’re going to get any of the primo 2018 FA’s- we will have to deal with him. If anything, I hope Eppler at least meets with Boras- it would be interesting to see how he deals with him
  22. I believe now is the time to go over the luxury tax for a couple of years if needed. Arte isn’t hurting for cash- think of the extra revenue Ohtani can bring in himself if the Angels are smart about it. If we get Arrieta now, his contract could be a bargain after all the $ gets doled out to next year’s FA class. If we can go deep in 2018, it’s going to make those FA’s that want to win more willing to sign with the Angels than if we lose in the wild card game.
  23. Do we really think Mike stays if he has a bad taste in his mouth from losing in the playoffs 3 years in a row? That’s assuming we get there. He’s already got the money- he’s going to be looking to win it all and 2018-2020 is the best window to win it all. All of the teams that went far last year had multiple pitchers that were better than our best pitchers- who are we going to put out there against Verlander? Kershaw? Keuchel? Lester? Kluber? I *hope* Ohtani can be that pitcher, but it sure would be nice to have someone we can feel confident with. I think it’s great we’ve made the moves we have, but we’re really missing a guy like Arrieta. It’s not just about his performance, but also what he can do for the younger pitchers- especially someone like Ohtani.
  24. It’s going to be really tough to stay competitive after 2020- If Trout stays, his salary will be even bigger than now. Also, Andrelton Simmons’ contract ends after 2020. It’s also likely that Ohtani will have a much larger contract at that point if he does as well as we hope he will. The roster after 2020 will likely be totally different than now in order to stay competitive and hopefully it’s because the farm system is bringing in players that can contribute at a high level very cheaply.
  25. it may be time to pay the luxury tax
