  1. And it's like when Goose died in Top Gun right now. But I also picture Ohtani here telling Arte to take him to the playoffs or lose him forever.
  2. Definitely seems that way. But who knows It sucks, but he had 6 years here to get a feel and an opinion of the org... can't really blame him for not seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.
  3. Reference Ohtani the baseball player, it is pretty crazy. Like you said, he might end up a hitter only in the near future. And as good of a hitter as he is, he's never been a 10 WAR guy as "just a hitter." So there is a huge, huge risk there As for Ohtani the moneymaker, he's as sure a shot as anyone in baseball. In all seriousness. Aside from Griffey, I can't really thunk of anyone off the top of my head who's ever been as popular as Ohtani. Baseball just doesn't have that appeal like basketball does. But Ohtani is massively popular, internationaly. If anyone is going to create money it's him. Not Pujols even at his peak. Trout. Mcab, or any of the other superstar ballplayers. Ohtani just became essentially the new Kobe. If the Dodgers win he can replace Magic. Meaning as the King of LA. So even of Ohtani never returns as a dominant pitcher, but is on a Dodger team that wins 100 games every year and maybe wins a few rings, it's still a huge win for the Dodgers Man this sucks.
  4. I don't miss those... Heard Ft Cambell got hit pretty bad. Glad you're safe.
  5. I doubt we'll ever know because the negotiations were super secret squirrel, but I'm curious to what we offered, and how realistic it ever was that he would stay.
  6. In regards to Ohtani, it's simple. You have a natural God given talent that makes you unique in a way that people from around the globe follow your every step, and people born after you retire will talk about. Your options are to stay at home in your shitty country with no future and a bad life, or immigrate... I really wish he would have stayed and was hoping he would, but at the end of the day anyone questioning why he did what he did is silly. He gets to play for a first class org that has a packed stadium year round and a guaranteed chance at a ring every year. I believe he was happy here. And would have liked to stay. But he's gonna see it as the fans see it. The Angels suck. He's got one shot in life, that he's worked his whole life for, to make history. It wasn't going to happen here. Everyone has to accept that. Forget money, we (the Angels) can't come close to matching what the other guy offers. It is what it is.
  7. Or how some people are loyal to movements, and will always look past the reality of any particular incident to say "well, that's different, because that person that did a bad thing is from a particular group my politics support, so it can't be that person's fault for the choices they made".
  8. So I don't think we'll ever know, because Ohtani asked to keep things quiet. But I'm curious to know what we offered. What other teams offered, etc
  9. So I've been AWOL on the board for a bit now because life happens. And this is in the same alley. "Sports is fun" and all that, but real life is real. Hang in there bro. Tornados suck. Hope you guys are safe.
  10. Yeah... I realized that about 2 years ago. It was literaly the one thing that stopped him from being a Dodger in the first place.
  11. What are the odds these two posts were back to back? Stanton and poor Mexicans Life's a trip, que no.
  12. In all honesty that was the only thing I thought would help us. That we would massively overpay and he'd never pitch again and we'd have another bad contract. It literally seemed like the "of course" way it would play out. Again, I hope Ohtani gets 10 rings over there. But I also hope the Dodgers finally get "angeled" with a really bad contract. It is crazy to think with shohei and Betts and Freeman, they have a monster star studded roster, but that those guys are going to get old all together at some point and cost 150 mill a year or something
  13. I thought the samurai helmet after home runs was going to convince him to stay. So I'd be lying if I said this doesn't suck. And I still gate the Dodgers. But I'm glad for Shohei. He's not going to waste his career like Trout. And no matter how expensive he is (which is crazy with his arm in limbo), u like the Angels, the Dodgers won't blink at spending more going forward. At least I can listen to dodger games on rhe radio when he pitches I guess. And honestly, he SHOULD be playing in a packed stadium in October. I'm probably alone here in saying it, but now I hope the Dodgers win 5 rings. And I still hate them. But I want to see ohtani become the guy no one can argue was the best of all time 50 years from now
  14. The overheemlomg.majority of Police / Sgeriff Depts don't have full time SWAG teams. Big cities like LA do, but most SWAT teams are basically one day a month training teams. It's a secondary job to whatever your normal job is. Put it like this. LAPD created SWAT. And they're one of the few full time teams in the country. And it still tool them like 40 minutes to get to the Hollywood bank robbery...
  15. Israel says 1400 were killed. If you shave 75 percent of that or so "exaggerated") roughly 300 or so unarmed people were killed by zealots. Including the Thai guy who was beheaded. Including the other 30 or so Thai nationals being held hostage With the other 150 or so people. Still held hostage. It's OK to shit in Israel. They've done enough, and will overdue this as always to make them out as the bad guy. But to the young idealistic kids right now chanting "zionists!" And "occupation" and "genocide".... ... with those people still kidnapped... Dear lord...
  16. And the kicker here is in the rest of the world, throughout history, this would have already happened. I roll my eyes so much because my best friend is Assyrian. And I know very few, relatively, people in the world know what that is.. And what I mean by that is that at the end of the day, somebody is always going to get the raw deal. And you can only gamble as much as you're able to back your hand... The Palestinians at this point are no different than any other persucuted people on earth, today or in the past. They need to accept reality...which is a shitty one Continuing to choose "war" isn't at this point going to get them any further in life.
  17. Again gonna chime in here to say Im not picking a side. I can do that because I've been shot and survivded before, and know that I can point fingers one way but know if I walk into a backyard along this particular street the people BBQing can make a strong case about home much my particular neighborhood sucks. Cue the scene from Sicario where Benecio Del Toro says "nothing you will see will make sense to you American eyes" or something. Like I said 1000 years ago in this thread, I don't have a side in this. If anyone is really bored I'll PM you and can wax poetic about the good or bad of each side here. But in the current real world it's been really simple for decades now....war(s) were fought, one side came out on top. The other guy could have long ago looked at the score and accepted reality, and bargained for the best deal out there. It sucks, but so do most (every) border on earth. The other guy chose "no: and "war". It sucks that people today have to pay the price for that, but it isn't unique at all. That's what I find so eyerolling... There's a few dozen on going conflicts on earth right now that nobody gives two shits about..because social media hasn't told them to pick a side. So it's not "real". And so we read a random headline and say "I can't even find that on a map so I assume it's just that that's how it is there." This current war dominates social media so every body is arguing..... but it's not unique at all. And neither side will budge. And neither side is the good guy (but currently Israel is) Those arguing about it need to look at the reality of the world and understand this event close to being unique... except the Jew thing... and realize every border out there was a compromise the same way we buy houses and cars. Again, cue the Socario quote. You have two people fighting. Both can make a case to why they shot a motherfucker in the neck that wasn't doing anything except banging out a Cambodian chick on one side of Anaheim Blvd. Because both can make a case that "so and so got shot!" Off of 15th and so they were just getting even can be matched with the other guy yelling the same shit. Don't choose sides is what I'm saying. It's really simple, one side of the street is in the driver's seat and the other guy refuses to accept it. Cals always mentions how brown I am, and I am, but I'm this sexy fucking mix. So here a picture of my Great Uncle on my Mom's side. He was killed by his own people for accepting reality.... .. and funny enough today, literally 100 years almost to the day later, his picture is hanging in almost every home back "home". Traitor and all. Sellout and all In the fastest growing economy in the EU
  18. https://www.aljazeera.com/opinions/2023/10/19/stop-israel-now-the-middle-east-cannot-take-another-major-war And here it is. You'll note nothing said here mentions Hamas... merely that Israel is killing Palestinians. It mentions Israel bombing Lebanon and how Lebanons economy is shit... nothing mentioned about how Hezbollah has been shooting into Israel for a 2 weeks now. No mention of either Hamas or Hezbollah. No mention of Iran, but mentions the US and our invasion of Iraq. Which then says that more Iraqis died following the invasion than have died in Ukraine... yet never once mentions that was from secretarian violence between the Shia and Sunnis. And people eat this shit up like Dennys when the bar closes. The best part is where he talks about Syria and how it's already suffered so much, but will be forced back into a war with Israel. And them mentions the same for Lebanon, which he says already fought 4 wars with Israel. But never once mentions how Syria invaded Lebanon and fought alongside the PLO and Hezbollah, against the Lebanese government, who's people were majority Christian before the Palestinians came.... after being kicked out of Jordan for trying to go to war with the Jords... Like, "they had no choice" And again, people eat it up like the the tacos at De Anda after the bar closes. Pay attention to Israel's north border in the next few days....
