  1. I have a ritual. I always make sure to take the lid off the can lefthanded and bang it on the side of the can before my throwing atm throws the turds into the can itself. If I deviate from the routine I die. I think.
  2. Why pay a guy who's broadcasting rights pay half (at worst) of his salary when you can instead buy old men and 1 year deals or guys nobody cares about instead? It would be one thing if this was an org with a fat farm system, and a history of getting it right. But we have a monkey mascot. And before anyone argues about dollars and all that, like I said in the other thread... Albert. Hamilton. Wilson. Wells. Cowart. Harvey. And on and on and on. We just let Babe Ruth walk because we were scared to waste money on a guy who's broadcasting rights almost paid his yearly salary.. And knowing that years ahead of today, we let him walk away instead of trading him. We gave up Marsh to get a guy we hope can stick at MLB at C. We literally got less for Ohtani, who brought in 30 mill a year in broadcasting. This franchise is back to the 90s for a decade, at least
  3. In Artes defense, $700 mill is a shit ton to spend on a guy with a bad elbow who may never pitch again. It's a shit ton to spend on anybody, period. Then again, we spent $800 on Pujols, Hamilton, Upton, Harvey, Cowart, Wells, and Rendon. Ohtani has more MVPs than all of them combined... more All Stars as an Angel than all of them combined.... Of its actually true that Shohei was willing to stay for the same money the Dodgers offered, than fuck Arte. There's literally no argument. And remember that we got saved by the Red Sox when they "stole" Crawford from us... because Arte balked at Beltre wanting $14 mill more over 7 years than we were willing to go. (History lesson. We gave Wells 16 less than Beltre, and Beltre is in the Hall. And we gave up Napoli to get Wells.) (Edit, Pujols had more MVPs than Ohtani, but I meant as an Angel)
  4. No idea how accurate this is, and we never will. But I assume it's at least mostly correct. There's likely some major points missing but the big picture is likely true. And that's enough.
  5. I vividly remember being at work the night before, listening to all the buildup that we were getting him. Telling my dodger fan partner and him calling bullshit. The suspense was killing me. And I remember going to sleep the night before and the rumors were like 7/200. And I was like "man, that's risky and expensive... but hey, it's albert pujols" Then I woke up the next day, instantly checked my phone. Saw we got him! "Yesssss! This is amazing!" ... then I saw the 10/250 and was kind of stunned... like... "ohhh shit ..." But like everyone else, I knew we'd get like 5 vintage pujols years, 3 dropping off years, and maybe 2 bad ones. Cough
  6. I'd say now he can walk back here and re-join the team, but he never walks.
  7. I'm usually an Angels fan for guys I "like", but every now and then I man crush on someone from another team At the time that was Vlad and Nomar. So getting Vlad was and still is my fave.
  8. Friday night (for me), grabbed a beer and picked up dog shit (hand wrapped in a bag style) Turn the TV on and click on YouTube, and the algorithm had this throwback Ohtani story from way before most of us (or anyone) had ever heard of him. Sat down, watched it. With hindsight, you watch it and go "gawdamn... crazy that he wasn't more hyped before coming over." And now it sucks, watching this prologue to what was coming. And now it's over (for us). Unrelated to the video, but talk about shitting in our face.... in the span of a year, he struck out Trout to end the WBC, then left to the Dodgers.. Lol. "Be happy to have loved and lost" I guess https://www.cbs.com/shows/video/p3n8aD4vOE839JTmAX5PPP6Mn_tQ42vx/
  9. The scene in Star Wars 1 (Star Wars?) Where he has the room on the space ship all quiet and depressed. Arte. The Death Star. And the franchise keeps moving forward with the same ending. Sigh.
  10. The Angels make some good socks! There might be something to this. But I think it was honestly about winning. Not ring chasing. But being in a position that every year he goes to work, he has a legit chance to be in a position that he goes to work every day for something that counts (as far as sports goes). 6 years in a spit where it was just "going to work, trying to get to friday: probably soured him.
  11. And then the camera follows Arte and Carpino to the harbor where they buy diesel to fuel their boats.
  12. You fuckers better put money on my books for Ramen and thermals. Go angels!
  13. I vividly remember earing at Dennys when we signed Ibanez. And the guy I was with was an Angel, who knew he just lost his job to Ibanez. He went on to a really decent career, and Ibanez became the reverse Ibanez Herr. The Angel thing.
  14. Younger me went w my buddy to an Angels open tryout once. They held it at CSUF. He had some... skills... and thought he had a shot. And to be fair this was when the team was pomping Ken Hill as a big add. He ended up playing golf, too
  15. But Chapman Ave is so close... We could really market it. "Chapman hits!" (Because at leat twice a week I have to take a report from people who got knocked out on Chapman)
  16. Ippei That would be actually pretty badass if Ippei knows he's untouchable and turns into Stillwell Angel from a League of their Own, on coke.
  17. I think right now Arte is feeling like "The Colonel", at the end of the movie Boogie Nights. Maybe 1 person on this board will get the reference. And whoever you are, I hope you liked that reference.
  18. Was talking about this with someone yesterday. Ohtani is the most popular baseball player, in years (if not decades), by a wide margin. You have guys like Jeter and Papi who were maybe close, Griffey being the closest, who still don't touch his popularity. Meaning on a global, casual fan scale. People in Europe are talking about him. Every major athlete has talked about him the past two years. Going to LA, he'll be the new Kobe. Ans there's a ton of money to be made on that. Baseball players aren't like NBA guys popularity wise. And even if Trout has his own Nike shoe, it's a cleat. Meaning only kids and guys playing baseball are going to buy it. Whereas Shohei and his popularity are going to lead to a ton more. Like you said, he's going to get richer and richer from endorsements. It's kind of crazy to think about. He's been super famous playing here the past few years, and now he'll become even bigger. And I don't mean that to knock the Angels, but the situation he's in now is pretty crazy. He has a chance to become the most popular athlete in the world (our time, not ever). Not sure any MLB player has ever been that, with soccer and the NBA out there (those two sports have a way bigger market than baseball does).
  19. Yeah, I read that forst part yesterday, and it actually makes more sense now. Not sure who offered more, maybe that was the Toronto owner? As for the last part.... I read that too. Who knows if it's true. But if so..... unless things go south for him in a big way the next few years, his time here is going to be hazier and hazier. Didn't the Red Sox at least get money to fund a play for Ruth?
  20. I still can't get over Artes 180 and deciding bot to sell. The only thing that made sense was that he had some sort of indication locking Ohtani up was going to happen. I assumed that would be his parting shot. Locked him up, appeased the fans, added value to the final sell, etc. And lol.... instead we lose Ohtani and keep Arte.... sigh
