  1. To put a night cap on tonight's game (it is 1am here) I talked to a guy that flew out to Arlington just to see Ohtani pitch. He is actually a Cardinals fan that read about a Japanese pitcher that could hit 5 years ago and started following Ohtani's career, even though he knew Ohtani would never end up in St. Louis. He is wearing a Nippon Ham Fighters jersey. Baseball fans (RIP trolldaddy) are baseball fans.

  4. Piling on to how deep this lineup is... After a slow start to the season, Jose Iglesias is now hitting .319/.333/.447 for an OPS of .780 over the last 12 games (batting .200 after the first 9 games of the season).

    Walsh

I’m assuming Walsh won’t play RF once Pujols’ contract ends.

  6. I know it was only one game, but the one thing I loved to see from it was when the Angels went down 4-1, they didn’t roll over and die like has been done before. They came out on fire offensively in the very next inning and kicked ass. That said a lot to me, seeing as we’ve seen the offensive doldrums with Trout and Rendon out. Even with Rendon not firing on all cylinders yet, he adds so much protection for Trout. Trout was in a groove last night, and if Rendon can get on track (which he will), this offense has potential to be lethal. Lets hope the pen can perform to the level the

  8. That is such a nasty line-up with J-Up and Albert at 6 and 7, and with Shotime and Trout writing headlines every night I'm looking forward to this one. Winning streak to 3 coming up!

  11. I felt like his low era from his first two starts was rather lucky based on how bad his control was. For whatever reason, a switch was turned on in the 2nd inning of last night and he looked awesome through innings 2-5. Like a #1 in the rotation type guy awesome. His control issues are real and should be of concern but hopefully last night is the turning point. If it is then I will gladly accept that my concerns about him were stupid and I was stupid.

  12. Statistically speaking it was his worst outing. But in some ways, it was his best - or at least the most promising for future success. In his first two starts he struggled with control and spells of throwing too many pitchers per out, but in this start it was really only the first inning. Meaning, I can see a shorter path from this version of Shohei to the one in which he's got better control and is a true elite starter.

  13. We really need to get these announcers back into the stadium. I realize it is more than just a couple of dudes and a mic to make this happen, but maybe MLB can step up and help make this happen. I would assume that each team has a department that travels with the team to make sure everything is working with audio and visual. Maybe MLB just has the home team make sure the away teams audio guys equipment is working so we really only need the four “on air” guys to travel with the team. Just a thought.

  14. The movie theaters have been closed for over a year now, and nobody's heard of any of these films or half of the actors. Thus, the drop in viewers. Plus the obnoxious politics thrown in our faces and the countless commercial breaks. Why would anyone want to spend their Sunday evening watching this? The Hollywood left thinks that everyone simply adores them when nothing could be further from the truth.

  19. Greg Harvey put together an interactive timeline showing the Angels’ all-time position player WAR leaders from 1961 to present. WAR represents “wins above replacement player” and is widely considered one of the more accurate statistics for representing a player’s value. Trout, in just 11 seasons, has started to steadily surpass Hall of Fame players in the all-time category with his total of 75.7. That’s the second highest total for active players and 75th all-time. Walsh

Too many are quick to call someone a career minor leaguer or 4a guy based on lackluster results after a cup of coffee or small sample size of 100-400 at bats. Walsh was in many publications top-30 prospects lists (in the 20-30 range) but you're right. He was never considered a top 10 prospect, or someone really known as a top prospect. That said the same can be said for many big league stars that were not top prospects and pretty much unknowns, including Jacob deGrom, JD Martinez, DJ LeMahieu, Jose Ramirez, Whit Merrifield, Luis Castillo, Justin Turner, Josh Donaldson, Paul Goldschmidt an

  21. Baseball is a game that is rich in tradition. It's one of the things that makes it so appealing to some fans. To discount that is to basically turn your nose up at something that's a part of its history. That doesn't mean baseball fans think they're "too good" to see change, but any changes should consider the traditions of the game. Baseball more than any other sport is also rich in its reverence of statistics and changes like having a runner start the game at 2nd base in extra innings impacts historical statistics. A lot of fans don't like that. Poo poo it all you want - but it's a

    Walsh

Walsh has less impact on Jo Adell's career than Jo Adell. Do you remember how bad Jo was last year? That has nothing to do with Jared and everything to do with Jo simply not being ready for major league baseball. Adell will and should spend the entire season in AAA. If he does well in AAA and in 2022 if Pujols is off the books and they haven't acquired another bat to fit into the lineup, then we can think about Adell or Marsh. But as it stands, both need to prove they can be successful in AAA first.

    Walsh

The minor league season hasn't started yet, so no real knowledge of what Adell is or isn't doing at this point. I think Walsh becomes the full time 1B for quite a while here starting next year thanks to AP's departure. So long term, Walsh's success shouldn't really have any impact on Adell's success or opportunities. The one Adell really has to worry about, IMO, is Marsh. I wouldn't be shocked if Marsh ends up being the better major league player out of the two of them.

  26. I agree with the tweet. Theres plenty of better teams out there, and were 2 days removed from the disaster in houston But the ohtani storyline alone I think is baseballs biggest story this year. Then add Trout. Put the two together. Let Rendon get hot. Pujols' last year... Like the guy said, lots of storylines. I really want Walsh to keep it up, not just to help the team win, but to have our own "where the hell did they find him?" guy finally.

  30. Light that baby up!! This was really one of the most entertaining games I’ve seen from the Angels in a very long time. They got down, Ohtani looked like shit, then they absolutely dialed up the offense and kicked ass. Truly amazing performance all around. Offense, defense, and pitching.

  37. These kind of stories are a little silly IMO. Teams have “talks” about trades involving probably 100 guys every winter. One time at the winter meetings we asked Jerry Dipoto what he does when another GM asks about Trout. He said “I listen and then I say no.” So we joked that we could make a click bait headline that said “Dipoto willing to listen to offers for Mike Trout.”
