  1. Reading the “Will the Angels Extend Anyone” thread got me to thinking. What would I want to see in the new Collective Bargaining Agreement. I will readily admit I am not the guy that knows everything about what is in the current CBA, but figured this might give some smart people, and myself a thread to discuss such things. So here is my first attempt at what I would like to see. Universal DH Expanded Playoffs Teams that receive revenue sharing must have a minimum payroll that is some percentage (200-300%) of the revenue they receive. Free Agency Granted after the Age 26 season. This should solve the service clock issue. Automatic raises following the first season until Arbitration year. Arbitration starts in age 24 season. When a player enters his first year without a minor league option the team can basically buy an additional option by doubling his mlb salary. The actual annual salary in a given year is the impact it has on the luxury tax A veteran player Salary Exemption from the tax threshold. (So you can pick one player, over the age of 33, who’s contract that given year, does not impact the tax threshold). Or you can amnesty one contract, but you can not amnesty another contract until the previous contract has expired. So if the Angels wanted to amnesty Upton, they couldn’t amnesty another contract for two years. Player is released, paid in full, but no luxury tax hit. You could also have clauses like, if the team releasing is over the threshold the previous year, they can’t amnesty a player, or something to that affect. I also wouldn’t be opposed to the Larry Bird rule being instituted, where you can go over the tax if it means you are keeping your own free agent. If a player tests positive for PEDs they immediately take another test. If that test is positive, then the team can void the contract anytime during their suspension. End the blackout restrictions Shorten the length of free agency. Trade Deadline expanded to September 1st and only have one trade deadline. Those are some of my thoughts, let me know what you think and what your ideas are.

  5. I know a lot of people will disagree but Adell has been looking more and more comfortable with the bat. He has been taking walks and seeing the ball well and it is starting to translate with his swings.

  8. Also, if Upton returns to form and Walsh is for real, the entire 1-6 is legit dangerous.

  9. Replace Pujols with Walsh. Then that should be the opening day lineup.

  11. WOW. That was the first time I've seen Jordyn Adams crush a ball. You love to see it.

  12. I'm with you on the playoffs. Baseball still makes it tough for teams to make it in. The final week of the regular season is pretty exciting as a result. Not only that, you truly have the best teams in the post season as it is now. I do not see the positives in expanding it.

  13. Oh, I'm not absolutely convinced it will translate. Barria kinda is who he is whereas Suarez could totally flame out or become a very good starter. What I've seen from him in the majors isn't anywhere close to the guy I saw in the minors. Today was probably the first real semblance of that I've seen since 2019. The time he spent in the majors that year f'd him up good. You could just tell they were trying to get him to do things he just wasn't comfortable with. He's only got one option year left. I kinda hope they don't need him in the majors at all this year so they can save that for next year and he'd be 25 before they'd have to guarantee him a spot at the big. By then, I think we'll have a much better idea of what he can be.

  15. Went to the game today. Seemed fairly normal. Most people weren’t wearing their masks by the later innings, but it was damn hot, so forgive us. Still had the contingent of drunk ASU douchbags and sluts, so that was cool. Anyways, I took these pics.

  22. Good for Rodriguez to experience that. He needs to work out of trouble to learn. Also, he is absolutely not starting in the majors. Not even in the bullpen. He has pitched 9 innings (that was in A+) in 3 years. Come on now. Give the kid a chance to grow.

  34. Hello everyone. I started watching baseball on a late night show back in the late 1990’s over here in England, and as I have followed a big football (soccer) team since childhood I wanted to walk a different road and have a different fan experience, so the MFYankees, (Brooklyn) Dodgers, and Red Sucks were out from the beginning. I tried to like the Mets, but hey, it’s the Mets and I didn’t want to be embroiled in a never-ending tragicomedy so that never took hold. Tried to like a couple of others too for various obscure reasons (Braves because of the crowd Tomahawk song for example) but nothing really stuck. I was hoping to like an East Coast team to make it easier to watch games live in England. Now, there’s a saying in football (soccer) that you don’t choose your team, your team chooses you and that’s what happened to me with the Angels in the 2002 ALDS. I’d never heard of Anaheim and had to look it up on a map to see where it was but as they were playing a MFYankees team that had dominated the AL for several years I was rooting for them to win just to see the MFY’s fail, but I didn’t really care too much at the out-set. And then I watched the Angels play! Small-ball baseball with singles and doubles, guys in motion, 1st to 3rd base-running, stolen bases and a never say die hustle epitomised by Eckstein (my first favourite player) with the occasional big-shot from Glaus, GA and Salmon, pitching rookies with attitude like Lackey and KRod, the team was an absolute joy to watch, they just never seemed to quit. Even the rally monkey was fun. I was hooked during that ALDS and the Angels didn’t disappoint thereafter (well, not for a few years anyway): underdogs all the way until Dusty Baker gave the game ball to the starter in Game 6 of the WS and then I witnessed one of the most phenomenal comebacks I’ve ever enjoyed watching sports. I think I’ve re-watched game 6 half a dozen times since (I’ve got in on in the background as I write this - Glaus just doubled in Figgy and GA in the 8th and still nearly 20 years later I’m cheering and fist-pumping). Aside from that I am pretty much a contrarian and occasionally a miserable git, so I’m hoping to fit right in at AW from what I've seen so far.

  36. - Trading of draft picks. - More stringent penalties for exceeding luxury tax limit. Ones that will specifically prevent what the Dodgers and Yankees have done. - Severe penalties for players and teams caught cheating. - Salary floor and ceiling with attached penalties. - Install a lottery system for the draft to prevent teams from tanking - Deaden the ball to pre-2016 levels. - Automatic free agency at age 28 or after 5 years of service, whatever comes first. - Expand rosters to 27 players. - Institute an international draft. International players may not be drafted until age 18. - Remove all blackout restrictions.

  37. If anything, Suarez is the hybrid. He's got better stuff than Barria yet slightly lesser presence and lesser stuff than Sandoval but better mound presence. He's 23 and like IP said, got thrown to the wolves way before he was ready at age 21 which was a lost year of Doug White trying to teach him Swahili when what he needed was the basics and then he lost another year last season. If we traded for a guy entering his age 23 season who owned a 3.68 minor league era and a 9.7 k/9 with 2.9 bb/9, we'd be thrilled. I watched a bunch of this kid in the minors. There's a reason he was a top 100 prospect at one point. He's got 50 grade stuff (maybe 55 when you sum the parts). He did a really nice job of commanding the zone in the minors. Framber Valdez is actually a good comp for him who was on his way to a breakout last year and probably this one who turned 27 late last year. I think we should wait to see where this kid is at around the age of 26/27 which gives him 3-4 more years to find his way. Even if he needs two more years in the minors.

  38. Can we just combine Suarez's stuff with Barria's mound presence?

  39. I'm down with most of your ideas. I've long been in favor of teams having a salary minimum. But I hate the expanded playoffs. Houston was one win away from playing in the World Series with a losing record. (But from what I have gathered on AW and amongst my friends, this does not bother most people as much as it does me.)
