  1. The Republican party hasn't been fiscally conservative or cared about running deficits for almost 4 decades they just like to say they're fiscally conservative. Both sides have had no issues passing budgets for decades that have added to the national debt and they've added hundreds of billions in pork barrel legislation to get budgets passed.

  4. One of the reasons is that anyone who gets hurt while on the major league roster has to go on the major league IL. So if Luke Bard is throwing a bullpen to his brother-in-law on a college mound in Kansas or something, and he blows out his elbow, he would have to go on the major league IL and collect major league service time and salary the whole time. Also, it's worth noting that whenever the season does start, I would assume they will have rosters expanded beyond 26. Just because someone doesn't look to fit on the opening day roster today, he may still be on it by actual opening day.

  5. Strat-O-Matic is simulating the 2020 season, one game at a time. They'll be doing a daily run down, posting standings and league leaders here: http://www.strat-o-matic.com/2020-season-simulation/ I'll post the daily Angels box score in this thread. The Angels won Game 1 of the season 9-6. Trout hit a homer in the first and a second homer in the fourth. 3-for-4 on the day. Interestingly, there were no HBPs in the Astros' first game of the season.

  11. When people who may have a contagious virus are going around and intentionally doing things that could make others sick that should be treated as an act of terrorism. Drop the hammer on a few of these idiots and the rest will hopefully think twice.

If they are all infected, shouldn't they stay in place, instead of going somewhere else where they will infect other people?

  15. As of last night New York had 10x as many cases as CA while having 7% of all confirmed cases in the world. If people follow the stay in place order a lot of CA should see a drop off. It's the densely populated cities or areas that will likely get worse before they get better.

  18. No that's the stupid Libturd way of "fighting" it. The AMERICAN way of fighting this virus is to say "fuck it" and flip the China Virus the bird while buying Bud Light and hot dogs at the gas station every day and then going into Walmart and punching every millennial fag in the face while wearing a howling wolf T-shirt.

  21. You've just laid out exactly why this virus has the ability to kill so many people. This is not about batting average or OPS. This is about total RBIs given how many at bats this virus gets. It's the 2012-2017 Albert Pujols of infectious diseases.

  25. you do realize the US is just starting to get where Italy was 2-3 weeks ago, right? NY and Washington are just going to start seeing their spike and LA is probably a week or two behind that. Hopefully a 2-3 month projection is overblown, but unfortunately anyone who thinks we are going to start going back to normal in the next week or so is sadly mistaken.

We discussed this a couple weeks ago and he has about two years of savings to cover expenses. On that he is covered. But he would rather take a lower paying job and position than file for unemployment.

  40. It’s not even opening day yet. I point this out because it “feels” like baseball has been gone for a long time, and I think a lot of people have already cancelled a good chunk of the season in their minds beyond what we know (mid May). Of course there’s a chance that there is no season, but no one has any idea now. It’s Mar 24.

  44. Once again, I am totally blown away with the ability of people on this stats heavy baseball board to not correctly interpret stats in context nor in light of other stats. Here's a solid takeaway from that article. When it was published 21 days ago, the article states: "However, despite the attention being paid to COVID-19, it is important to realize that it is by no means the deadliest infection globally in 2020. It is not even the deadliest virus. Fewer than 3,200 deaths have been attributed in total to COVID-19." Since then, in 3 weeks, the virus has multiplied the number of dead by 6.5, now near 21,000. This is with all the measures that have been put in place, including the almost complete paralysis of China. Also, when looking at the in-hospital death rate, you have to consider what percentage of influenza patients require hospitalization (1.4% estimated in 2018-19). Even if you cut the estimated hospitalization rate for COVID-19 in half, it's still at 10%. These aren't trivial differences.
