  1. Going back to the game after (April 29) Richards' implosion vs the Skanks at home: 191 innings (almost 6 per game), 153 hits, 183/59 Ks/BBs, 2.59 ERA, 1.11 WHIP

  7. With the first day of the 2018 draft set for Monday, June 4th, why not take a look back at previous years to see who were/are the best and worst This year Trout took the WAR lead from Tanana and now has the highest total for 1st round picks. Granted, Trout has accumulated that solely as a halo. Trout was 1(25) 2009. Other notable 1st rounders include Weaver 1(12) 2004, Troy Glaus 1(3) 1997, Erstad 1(1) 1996, Abbott 1(8) 1998, Brunansky 1(14) 1978, Tanana 1(13) 1971. Andy Messersmith was the best from the second phase 1(12) 1966. Chuck Finley was taken 1(4) 1985 in the second

  12. https://www.mlb.com/news/5-mlb-teams-with-most-1st-round-draft-success/c-235346730 The Angels draft history is actually pretty impressive. They rank 4th overall with 155.7 WAR out of their 1st round picks since the 30 team era. Even if you take Trout out they would rank in the upper third all time. The Trout draft class is considered by many as the greatest single draft by any team ever. Trout, Skaggs, Richards, Grichuk and Patrick Corbin. What Doc 's list (and the linked article), show is just how difficult it is to draft well.

    Albert's gift To Gubi

You don't think he thanked him in person? He is showing it on Twitter for all the Pujols and Angels fans out there. Nothing at all wrong with it.

  24. I'll give credit where credit is due. Valbuena was a good choice today, although I would have sat Pujols instead of Simmons. He let Skaggs pitch 6 innings, 107 pitches, and the bullpen was managed well. Johnson is not as bad as people think. He is just not a closer. Ramirez gave up a home run, but there was nobody on base and we had a 3-0 lead. Good job sticking with Anderson instead of letting Cam pitch with the bases loaded.

  25. The offense is far from perfect, but it is not the problem. The Angels are 5th in the AL in runs, 4th in HR, 5th in SB, 5th in K%, 5th in OPS, 3rd in WAR. All despite Calhoun and Kinsler and the 3rd lowest BABIP in the league. Meanwhile, the pen is 2nd in total blown saves and 14th in SV%.

  26. Once we can start betting on balls and strikes they will have to go to a mechanical strike zone, right?

  27. To be fair i don't think he assumed going into the season that he would be closing games after never pitching past double-a in his entire career. Too much to ask of him and he has done a good job considering the circumstances so far.

  28. Glad we won, but that's just unacceptable. 6 of those weren't even on the corner. The Rangers had 2. It almost cost the game. I have yet to see a site that tracks umpire accuracy. That's a little suspicious to be honest. We have catcher framing stats. How about a little transparency.

  29. I hope he doesn't even make it past the midway point of this season with a job. His stubborn "old school" managing style is so obsolete it is completely failing this team.

  30. As of now, im not for trading guys away for one year relievers. If its me, keep the farm intact. If its a multi year guy, that changes things...

  32. So for the rest of the season, they have the most difficult schedule of any team in the MLB? Nice.

  33. Articles that don't actually state what the court ruled on is really becoming a pet peeve of mine. It's the journalistic equivalent of half-assing a 6th grade book report.

  34. Ms are pretenders, they have half the run differential we do and have had a relatively soft schedule to date, it will catch up to them. They have been on a roll, grats to them for that, but i dont think its sustainable in thier case. Right now i feel that we are pretenders unless we fix the bullpen. We have 11 blown saves, second worst in the major, and mlb worst 54.17% save percentage. For perspective, Sea is one behind us in blown saves, but their percentage is much better at 68.75.
    3 points
  35. One thing for sure, they won't be drafted a 3rd round quality guy with the 17th pick and then celebrating like they found the next Johnny Bench.
    3 points
  36. Seattle’s run differential is 5 better than Oakland who is 2 games over .500 ... kinda screams regression to me. Yesterday in the 9th the Rays had the infield pulled in with a runner in 3rd and 1 out, Gordon pops up weakly to short, which would have been routine instead it barely sneaks over the short stops glove, the M’s win. Everything is going right for them so far.

  37. How are we supposed to be contenders with the shakiest BY FAR bullpen of ANY contender???? NO decent or close lead is safe!!!!
    3 points
  38. Mariners have won a lot of close games, but the good teams win those type of games. They are definitely in it for the long haul and not just a fluke. And all this talk about how they're winning because they are playing easy teams like the rays, twins, tigers is stupid, because the angels couldnt beat any of them so what does that say about the angels?

  44. Bingo. Consider: entering the season, Suarez hadn't thrown one pitch above low-A Burlington, and Canning hadn't throw one professional pitch yet! It's the beginning of June. These dudes have shown astronomical growth and have been promoted really aggressively. There's no way these two should be in the big leagues yet. Give them some more time, have them continue to develop their pitches, sequencing, etc. We'll see them in the big leagues very soon, perhaps even as early as September for a cup of coffee.
