They've won like 27 out of their last 28 games...is this a serious question?

Claude, I can tell you with 100% certainty that all 25 guys on the club want to win every game they play, especially down the stretch here going for the wild card. Just because they haven't, doesn't mean they haven't tried. We've run into some good teams here in Sept. That's all it is. This team need a couple more pieces and health to be a serious contender. It's not the current crop of players fault. Some adjustments need to be made. I can guarantee you that if we had our key guys this season, we'd be sitting where the Yankees or Twins are right now, not chasing.

To say they are "going through the motions" is just plain stupid. They got swept by a team on a historic run. Forget about what Cleveland did to us, they have only trailed for a handful of innings in this streak. My guess is minus their one loss they've trailed about ten innings in the last 28 or so games.

Also hoping that there will be NO extension of the manager's contract and that under a new manager Pujols will finally be dropped in the batting order and made a part-time player starting in 2019, because this is too much. Some changes are way overdue.

I don't agree with this. I think the Angels have done everything they can to win, they just aren't that good of a team.

It's impossible to still play hard in September and still do well in the offseason apparently.

Pretty much this ^^^ We've had so many injuries this season to the starting pitching, we're going to have our 2nd BP game in lieu of a 5th starter in a row. Our rotation consists of two guys trying to find their groove due spending most of the season on the DL (Richards, Skaggs), another guy that was so off the radar that a Baltimore team strapped for pitching let him go for nothing (Bridwell), and another guy that shouldn't be in any rotation because he gives up 2 runs just walking to the mound (Nolasco). Yet they keep battling...as well they should. At 2.5 games out, you keep trying to win until you're eliminated.

    They are that good!

The upcoming offseason should be more important to us than this year's 2nd wild card game. Figuring out how to compete with the Houston's & Cleveland's should be priority one rather than worrying about if the Twins are going to roll over and die for us. The Rangers are back in our rear view mirror and closing fast. Let this season go already and let's make some solid acquisitions this offseason. Eppler knows what we need and hopefully he can get it done.

Fuck it. Just win. Fuck Verlander and Fuck Houston.
  14. 3 points
And it took years of coming in LASTRO to become relevant. You guys can't handle 2nd place. Praise Houston all you want. They once won 162 games . . . over a 3-year period. Over one 6-year stretch their highest finish was 4th in the division. in 2007, they drew over 3 million fans for the 3rd time in 4 years. Five years later , their attendance had dropped by 47% Houston has been to 1 World Series. Houston has never won a World Series. Houston has never won a World Series game. I'll stick with the Angels.

I don't think baseball is fun to watch merely because I like the sport. It's not even my favorite sport. In fact, it's probably third, behind college football and college basketball. The NFL bores me now. Come from behind wins are fun to watch. Close games, while at times agonizing, are fun to watch. How many teams have, not one, but two players that are as exciting to watch on the field every night as Trout and Simmons? In regards to entertainment value, i'll take them over any other duo in baseball.
  16. 3 points
I dunno I just don't agree with that Nate, I've been pretty encouraged by Skaggs last 3 starts. Maybe I'm a homer but I still believe if healthy we've got some pretty good pitchers in Skaggs and Heaney.
  17. 3 points
Trout had no help. Trout gave no help the last 15 games. Trout has a share if the responsibility of Angels poor record in September.

Swept back to .500 reality check

Honestly, it's your own fault if you needed a reality check with this team. I'd say it should be pretty known by now what they are. I've actually quite enjoyed how they've somehow stayed in the race all this time. Granted, the 2nd WC this year is going to go to a team who really isn't any good so that mostly played a role in this but I still didn't think this team would stay at or above .500 for this long with all the injuries they sustained. I don't know how they're doing this with the state of their rotation. Nolasco would have definitely been replaced by now if they had even decent luck regarding pitcher injuries this season
  19. 3 points
In their last 59 games, the Injuns are 47-12 (.797) they were 49-45 prior to that stretch. if you think we lost those games merely because "we are this bad", you haven't been paying attention to just how good that team has been for the last couple of months.

I'm just not buying the Moustakas sudden surge in home run hitting this season as sustainable in Anaheim with that damn border wall in right field.

While I dont disagree that Pujols should be retiring, I just find it funny that we are dogging on the only guy (with 60+ABs) to be hitting over .300 during the month of September. I know BA is not the end all, but the dude is actually hitting so far this month. The rest of the year...ugh. Hate to say it, but Dave Roberts gets some mad props from benching an under performing Adrian Gonzalez.

While I agree that changes are needed....I have to give credit to the manager and the GM. This team should not be playing meaningful ball in September and yet we have been. When you lose Richards on day 1, Shoe has been out, as pointed out Skaggs, Heaney and the aforementioned Richards has been trying to figure it out, when you lose Trout for a month, have no real production from your LF and 2Bman, have a bullpen put together on wing and a prayer, and yet here we are (or were) still competing 2-1/2 games out of the wild card race. Who would have thought back in March and April we would be playing meaningful ball in September. A lot of that success falls at the feet of both Eppler and Scioscia.

@Calzone pay attention dude. This post is so on point, but I feel you're completely missing out on all the fun and exciting plays/games because you're focused on shit that's completely out of your control. You're burning a lot of energy and time on being reactive to the negative, while completely missing out on the positives. I've been a fan since '79 and have enjoyed some good baseball over the years. The good, the bad and the ugly. If you're a fan of the team, you stick with your team and support them. We're fortunate to be in a spot we're in, playing meaningful baseball games in late Sept., despite all of the major injuries & recent failures.

Oh, I think you've made that abundantly clear. Perhaps you shouldn't give figure skating a try. If you have any questions, ask playball89. He was a top-rated amateur before his unfortunate gerbil incident

This is absolutely correct. People want pitchers who have undergone TJS to just magically spring back once they start throwing again but full recovery rarely happens and to pitch close to what you were before the ligament blew generally takes a year after you start throwing again. Skaggs and Heaney both have above average repertoires and ability. To give up on them now would be foolish in my opinion. Both can be front-of-the-rotation types (#2/#3). Skaggs' pure stuff could even step up higher but that is quite doubtful at this point.

If we didn't get Upton I would be much more down on this season. Acquiring him has been such a huge cherry on top for this team and if they get him to stick around (they must) I think the season with all of its challenges has been a resounding success for the teams soft rebuild efforts. We had a nice draft, got guys like Richards and Skaggs back (finally) dug up Bridwell. IMO, Cron has demonstrated again that he's our guy at 1b. Even Heaney should be good to go next year. We can still get a great player at 13 in the draft. As long as we keep Upton, with some health the team could be pretty good next year. Even if we don't go get a pitcher. Though, hopefully we do. I'm just gonna enjoy this last week. If we can somehow stay within 1 or 2 of the Twins through the weekend, we'll have a shot at a fun wild card game. If not, who gives a shit.
  31. 2 points
The real reality check is that we have a broken down, unproductive designated hitter batting cleanup for the next 2 years at least and making 25 million a year. Scioscia/Moreno need to do something about that or we'll be right back at .500 next year with Pujols' OPS below .700

I can't wait until the Twins fall apart against the Tigers and we accidentally limp our way into the playoffs.
  33. 2 points
I wouldn't give up Skaggs or any other starter for Hernandez. Yes we need a 2nd baseman, but we can't give up pitching to get one.

Cubs pull one out of the fire after being down to their last strike in the 9th . Tore the heart out of the Brewers. After the bad 1st half, the Cubs will still win 90+games. Watch out for them in October.
  35. 2 points
They are going through the motions. The team has zero life to it in the middle of a playoff race. That's a horrible sign. I hope Upton doesn't opt out and they just spend all their cash on pitching this offseason. Trade some minor league outfield depth for a legit starting 3b or 2b.

Just what is it about the Angels September that impresses you so much? If the season started in September guess where we would be in the AL West? Don't guess, let me show you. Houston 13-5 Oakland 11-8 Texas 9-9 Seattle 8-10 Angels 7-10

I partially agree with some of the lackadaisical play but they did get hit by some serious injuries. I still think that Eppler hastily went after Maybin, Espinosa and Valbuena. I actually did say that Revere was a better fit than Maybin. Upton is an upgrade but let's be clear, it was a salary dump and we have no idea what Upton is going to do after this season. The team was pretty cash strapped last offseason so they had their limitations. That shouldn't be the case this offseason. They also have a poor farm system that is slowly coming together. As far as Stradling being a troll, that is the furthest from the truth. He's all Angels 24/7.
