  1. Looking for a stale, rehashed take, are you? There was a sunday home game a few weeks ago - it looked like there was an announcement of an Anthrax scare during the game, there were so few people. Checked the box score the next day, and bingo: 40,000 'tickets sold'. The Patrick Kane rape accuser looks at these numbers and says, "something's fishy".

  3. Actually, you can thank: Last in MLB in batting average Last in the AL in on base pct. 2nd to last in the AL in slugging pct. 2nd to last in the AL in OPS .001 ahead of the White Sox. This is an offense has that completely lacked the ability to put rallies together except for one 3 1/2 week stretch in July.

  7. 9/11 and Iraq have both been investigated once. Benghazi has been investigated at least six times. If another major terror attack happened to the US and a democrat was president, I have no doubt that for a few days or maybe even a week or two there would be some sort of unity. After that, though, I also have no doubt that the shit would hit the fan. Republicans have spent the last seven years talking about how unsafe we have been under Obama. Do you think they'd let that all go?

  9. I just have a feeling if the angels sign Price or Cueto, 2 months into the season they turn into the 2015 version of Verlander. I would rather they find one or 2 Heaney types. Same goes for lf, 2b,c, 3b.

  14. Yep, everyone hates somebody(s) - Scioscia, Dipoto, Reagins, Stoneman, Pujols, about 2 dozen other players I won't list, then there is the owner, the city of Anaheim, the Chinese developers who want parking spots, the ushers, the umps, the comissioner, the replay personnel in NY, the food service personnel, the food, the traffic, the prices, the parking, etc....and on and on and on. About the only golden child is Mike Trout, but just give it some time. Makes you wonder why anybody really cares? Pretty soon we will get a new GM, fresh meat, we will learn to hate him (her) too.

  15. I'm disappointed by his performance on the field, but pleasantly surprised by all the intangibles he brings. I think he's a pretty genuine human being, he gives back to the community, he's a good mentor for someone like Trout, and provides some nice leadership qualities that someone like Hamilton could only dream about. When he's healthy, he is still dangerous as a hitter, but not elite anymore. I think he will hang it up before his contract expires. Hopefully he gets healthy over the offseason, and we can squeeze a couple of more season of adequate performance out of him. Is he ego driven over milestones? I don't think he is any more driven in that regard than anyone else would be under the circumstances of having a Hall of Fame career. As far as swinging to pull hits for home runs, that's about all he can accomplish with the foot and lower body injuries he has sustained. He can do more damage that way rather than trying to leg out doubles and singles given the fact that he can't effectively run right now.

  16. I haven't read through this whole thread. I just want to point out that the Angels averaged more than 3 runs a game in games against Kershaw and Grienke this year. The last two games against them they scored 4 and 5 runs. So its not like the Angels just got shut down and had no chance. Just like they have all year, they failed to get both their offense and pitching to click at the same time. I honestly don't think this has factored in at all. The only thing you can blame is their poor overall performance as a team. Featherston blew the last game against Grienke with poor defense. Featherston has also had some very random bad luck. The ball getting stuck in the glove was a fluke and should have ended the game. Earlier in the season against the Giants they were rallying back in the 9th when what would have been a single hit Featherston for the final out of the game. Once again a fluke that ended a game they could have possibly won. Their hitting w/RISP has been atrocious. I can't count how many times they could have won games if they were able to do simple things like hit a sac fly. To put this on any one situation is ridiculous. I'm sure you can find a case where the Astros or Rangers had to face some terrible pitcher that just had a really great game that day. Is it fair to them they had to face him on a good day? It is what it is. The reality is that the Angels played so poorly they put themselves in that position. If they were at 90+ wins right now and Texas was too and they were fighting for the division title I could see bringing this up. It would makes sense if they had played great baseball the rest of the year and so you could bring it all down to a few games like that. But there were soooo many games they blew that this is just a weak attempt to find a scapegoat for why the Angels are in the position they are in right now.

  29. 2013 was understandable and I was hoping for a significant bounce back in 2014 to more like 2012 numbers. But his alleged bounce back year was really pretty ordinary. He has seemingly plateaud in the .750-.780 OPS range and we have to hope he can stay there for a few more years. Whether he can or not is an entirely different question, but I feel we've seen Pujols' last .800 OPS season.

  30. I do think he knows that he doesn't have much effective baseball left in him, and he's trying to make his way up the career homerun list while he still can. Why would he not be able to go the other way effectively, or at least be more selective? If anything, THAT makes no sense

  33. Stop generalizing. I wouldnt complain that something cost us a playoff spot. This team runs into a ton of u neccessary outs, they make stupid mistakes on a daily basis that you dont see other teams do. They never make adjustments, and let bad teams sweep them without much of a fight. For you to sit here and say that 2 games cost us a playoff spot, when the Rangers and Astros both played the same team, is LAUGHABLE.

    Trout Slump Over

Nice to see him back but August he was well below a replacement level player. His Napoliesque dive was a main contributor to the Angels going 10-19. His return to hitting coincided with swinging at the first strike instead of taking, taking, taking. About every fan saw that was his problem, the talent was there he just hobbled himself at the plate giving pitchers a free pass.

    Unholy Pope Batman!!

Glen found an article about some congressman that is boycotting his visit because he is talking about Climate change and Cuba instead of Christian persecution in the West and some other absurd stuff. I like this Pope, he is progressive and really seems like he wants to positively change the world. More than just a figurehead.

    Rebuild?

Moreno had world series eyes after the 2009 playoffs. Kendrys went down May 29th of 2010. On jul 17th we were 3.5 back of the division lead. We move to 7 gb on jul 25th (8 gb of the wild card), and the next day, Moreno/Reagins/Scioscia went full tard and traded for Dan Haren. On july 31st. The deadline for trades. We were 9 back. That was the tipping point. It wasn't so much the trade itself, but a window into where Arte's mind was at. you could just feel the desperation. Frankly, we didn't really need to rebuild at that point either. We just didn't need to trade for Vernon Wells. Even with the disaster, we won 86 games. Then the Moreno spiral continues with Pujosl and of course Hamilton. Btw, not every big contract is a complete and utter disaster. We've had a run of some really bad ones. Usually, they are just ok to kinda bad. Not atrocious. The really long ones tend to be the worst. Most teams have one. Some have more. If the player isn't super productive in the last 20% of the deal, you kind of expect that and it comes with the territory. Getting and unprecedented lack of production in the first half of the deal is impressive. My point is, if you sign a big name this winter, you shouldn't expect what we've seen with our last two big name guys. The pujols deal was an organizational thing. It was supposed to get us in the right direction for at least 5-7 years. It has failed, but that one I am less inclined to be horribly critical of. There isn't a gm in baseball that expected such a tremendous tank job. The hamilton deal could be seen from miles away. Somehow I think Moreno felt he was being shrewd. To be honest, that's the one that has really hurt us. You can deal with one deal like that. Not a second one that is coupled with zero production. Like it or not, the halos have made their choice. Financially they can clearly absorb some more payroll. They have to know it's their only option because there aren't any position players coming in 2-3 years from the current system.

  47. I always wondered how they make turkey bacon. Apparently is it made from the rare swine bird. It was sent to Holland and then sent back, so now it's imported. Makes you want to pick up a case. At least it's kosher. Well, that clears that up. I can't imagine how they could possibly have made them better. The market for this must be huge. But not as big as for this. I'm not crazy about sandwiches that look back at me. Now you can stop buying movie tickets and paying for dinner. It's all about maximizing value, selling every useful part.
