Tanaka to be posted soon by Rakuten

According to Sports Hochi, the Rakuten Golden Eagles are prepared to offer Masahiro Tanaka $8 million to stay with the team next season.

The $8 million salary would be the largest single-season salary ever for a Nippon Professional Baseball player, per Patrick Newman of NPB Tracker. Tanaka has expressed his desire to play in MLB next season, but his Japanese club isn't ready to relent just yet. Even if he isn't posted this offseason, the 25-year-old will be able to leave after the 2015 season. At this point it's just a matter of when -- not if -- he makes the jump to the U.S.

whats taking so long? (serious question)

edit- is there a legit time table? or we just sit here with our thumb up our butt and wait?

Reports today including from Gammons are that they aren't posting him.  The team he's on has gone so far as to say that posting him now would mean admitting that the Japanese League is nothing other than a MLB minor league.  So, the people at Rakuten are circling their wagons and coming up with fanciful reasons why honor and the sort is reason enough to not post him.

Rosenthal now joining the chorus of non-posting reports.

He's basically parroting  the others -- wish they would end the speculation and make a formal announcement.

The article also states Tanaka had become the Rangers number one target.

So, it would be tantamount to the Golden Eagles (and the rest of NPB) admitting what the rest of the world already knows.

Guess they gotta save face.

I suspect Dipoto has a pretty hard cap on what he can spend on Garza.  If Tanaka isn't posted, I would imagine the Rangers/Yankees/Dodgers and others would all target Garza, so the price is bound to go way up.  My guess is we end up with 1 or 2 cheap low-risk/high-upside guys in January.
