Ballparks on the waterfront are working out well lately (Pittsburgh, S.F., Cincy, and S.D.). 

Of course, those ballparks are in decent/solid neighborhoods.

 

What is Port of Oakland's neighborhood like?

i live in san diego. before the ballpark and within it's first few years, i quite literally saw people shitting on the sidewalk. it was far from a nice area.

We've got a spot about five miles from the house just waiting for a new ballpark.

 

Now that the NFR is bolting town, a lot of discretionary cash has been freed up.

Looks like Bud Selig will be able to retire without ever having to make a decision on the A's going to where they should go -- San Jose.

the SOMA was somewhat of an industrial wasteland before AT&T park came in too.

totally revitalized that part of town.

Wont happen, not even sure why groups are considering it. The Port of Oakland will not give up any land. Its just too valuable to their industry. And I dont see anyone coming in to give a stupid offer on the land. The area itself is not attractive, were talking the need for an entire district to be redone. Otherwise it will be a jewel sitting in the middle of a wasteland. Same situation the Braves are getting out of. If someone can pony up the cash then awesome, im sure it would be a great ballpark and id like to visit. But the A's ownership is done in Oakland.
