Reports are starting to come out in Japan that have stated Rakutan has said he will not be posted:

We'll see if this continues to be the news we hear this weekend.

If so, Jerry, call Garza's agent tonight please.

If he is not posted his current club will get no large cash windfall. There may be draft pick compensation if he signs after this season with another Japanese team. The year after that he can sign as a FA with any team in US again no compensation. I am sure he will be posted soon. Actually I think I read most of this stuff on AW or MLB.com. I know the Japanese owner is livid that the posting rules have changed and he is missing out on 30-40 million he may have gotten under old posting rules.

Can't he be posted next offseason?

Can't he posted next offseason?

Yes.  9 years till Japanese free agency.  He just completed year 7.  So the team has control of him for 2 more years.

Also remember, he just lead the team to their first Championship.  So him coming back for another year may have more benefit to the team than posting him for the same amount that they can get after next season.

Next off season he is a Japanese league free agent. He won't belong to his current team thus they won't be able to post him. The following year he can be an international FA and posting will not be required for him to play in US. This is his current teams last chance to make any money from his free agency.
