Ervin Santana's Asking Price . . .

Recommended Posts

With a name like Bean Stringfellow, how could the agent not be nuts?

Ervin is, at best, a #3 starter. The going rate for #3s is about $12-16MM a year. Given his erratic record (although he has had three pretty good years out of the last four, and four out of the last six), I think he'll end up getting in the 4-5 year, $14-15MM range, so 4/$56M - 5/$75M.

Sounds like a character from "Funky Winkerbean".

I think Santana is going to get more than Ubaldo but right around what CJ got is pretty close. Santana does pitch a lot of innings, he's dependable and also had a great year last year. He won't sign for a few more weeks though.

$112 million over 5 years . . . seriously!?! . . . (per ESPN)

It makes it look like

1) His agent's on crack

2) Weaver's and Wilson's deals were steals . . .

$22M+ over five years for a pitcher who is good every other year is a lot of coin - especially considering that the upcoming season will be one of his off-years if everything goes according to schedule.
