How would you finish off the off-season?

For me:

  1. Select Colby Lewis in the Rule V draft.  Injury concerns, yes but the dude is really good when healthy.  Veteran righty that would fit after Wilson if healthy.
  2. Sign Suk-Min Yoon 2-3 years 10-15M.  Young, good stuff (even after the injury concern).  Worst case?  Solid arm in the pen.  Best case? Another number 4 starter super cheap.
  3. Sign Raul Ibanez to a 1 year deal, 3-4M.  DH only option, GRIT, CLUTCH and all those other things.
  4. Dangle a package of Conger/Iannetta and Jepsen/Kohn/DDLR to get another young arm in here.
  5. Give Morin a long look in Spring, and sign Trout after April 1.

Cheap 1 year DH

Garza/Tanaka if possible to acquire while under the tax

A couple low-risk guys for the bullpen/depth

Renew Trout for more than the minimum and throw the kitchen sink at him right after the season ends (when Wells is off the books and a mega-extension won't put the Angels over the tax)

I like how the team is looking on offense. Sign Ibanez and give him 400 PA and you're set.

Garza would be fine by me since he doesn't cost a draft pick and slots in perfectly as the #3 guy. Then you have 3 guys who can give you 200 innings each and Richards/Skaggs/Santiago make for great back end depth in the rotation.

Use the rest of the money, if they have any, to give Trout a bit of a raise and possibly sign one more bullpen arm.

love #1.

I think Yoon might come cheaper than that but I'd do it.

not a fan of ibanez.  Kubel maybe?  Chavez?

Conger needs to stay and the platoon of him and Ianetta is actually pretty strong.  Would have to get an above market value deal for me to be ok with this.

I think Morin will definitely get a look this spring.

Would be my favorite off season move to lock up Trout to celebrate opening day.

Other things I'd consider:

If you get Lewis, then I would sign another 1yr SP with upside (Johan?) and then try and get Tananka.  If not, you have Skaggs, Santiago, 1yr FA upsdie guy and Lewis as well as Shoemaker for the 4th-6th spots and 2 guys in the minors.

I'd pass on Garza unless you are getting a decent deal.  4/60ish.  Don't think that happens by any stretch

Would love to see JD make another DDLR type move for the pen.

I'd be shopping Aybar right now for a starter.

Have anyone given any thought that if we trade Howie to just putting Romine at second base? He is excellent with the glove.

Howie is just some much better than Aybar offensively, you would lose less by having Romine at SS.  This assuming that Aybar could net you about the same as what Howie could on the trade market.  He could be worth more actually.  Green is both a defensive and offensive downgrade to Howie.  Romine would be a defensive upgrade but a massive downgrade on offense.  He probably an upgrade to Aybar on D and a downgrade on offense but not so much that it would really hurt the offense overall.
