Dipoto to look to FA to fill DH and SP spots

Besides replacing Trumbo and adding another starter, the Angels still need to improve the bullpen. They can't be content with what they currently have.

Dipoto expects C.J. Cron to help #Angels toward the end of the '14 season, not out of spring training.

My guess is they sign a back end starter just to create some depth. 

 

The rest of the money is allocated to Corey Hart and another bullpen piece.

#Angels would like to add a LH bat for some DH AB. They're expected to check in with Eric Chavez (again) and Raul Ibanez.

 

I'm all for getting Ibanez just for the fact that he kills vs the Halos

Ibanez would cost too much, although having a really solid age 40 season.

I suspect that Skaggs will start the year at AAA. It's probably going to be Weaver/Wilson/FA/Richards/Santiago to begin the year. If Skaggs shows he's ready and/or one of Richards/Santiago doesn't do well, Skaggs will likely then get his chance. Either way, the unknown factor makes it all the more exciting and I'm really excited to see how these guys develop. Some of these guys have potential to do big things. We'll see.

Ibanez isn't a bad idea at all. 

 

He's been an above average hitter 12 out of the last 13 years using wRC+. As long as he stays far away from ever seeing time in the outfield, I would be fine adding him as a DH.

Tanaka makes sense. #1 FA starter if posted, good age to contract value. No pick loss.

Garza does not. Likely going to command too much money over too many years, but no pick loss. Not consistent.

Arroyo makes sense. Age a factor, but he is consistent. Shorter term contract only.

Colon does not. FA pitching over 40 is not usually a good fit. Steriod concerns. Fat.

Hammel makes sense. Off an injury, but used to be solid. No pick loss. 1 year make it deal possible.

Jimenez and E Santana do not. Too much money, too many concerns, and you lose a pick? Pass.

Santana makes sense on a minor league deal, but tough to come back from the type of injury he had. Low Cost, High Reward potential.

 

It's a varied group of names, but you'd have to hope they're on this page.

Garza makes the most sense.

 

Get another relief pitcher.

 

As for the DH option, Ibanez, Young are a couple good names for the right price.
