This is disturbing:

Income Inequality Backlash Hits Silicon Valley

Not long ago, Google's buses were perceived as a responsible, helpful perk that allowed Googlers to work on their way to work (the buses have WiFi) and helped the community and environment by removing lots of cars from the road.

Now, however, the buses symbolize one of the most important and depressing trends in the world today — the growing gap between a handful of "haves" and the vast majority of "have nots."

What is truly disturbing is they are expecting commuters to work on the way to work. Unless they receive financial compensation then the bus is essentially taking fares for the ride through work product. Never unplug the Google tether would be the corporate model for workers.

people like to irrationally protest here.

today i saw a huge protest against ellis act evictions.

basically there is a law that if you are a property owner and want to get out of the landlord business, or move in relatives - you can legally evict your non-elderly tenants.

well some people have been living in apartments for 10-20-30 years (which means cheap waaaay below-market rent since SF has rent control) and feel entitled to live in an expensive city for life on the owner's dime.

so they protest when the owner goes to evict them (which also by law involves a nice 5 and sometimes 6-figure payout to each tenant).

heaven forbid someone wants to get out of a business. travesty.
