Why I believe the Los Angeles Angels will win 90+ Games in 2014

no.  there is nothing magic about it.  2012, 2013, and now 2014 will have fairly similary players.  Callaspo and Freese both had off years defensively last year.  Freese was apparently injured.  It's not a stretch to think we could get average defense from him

 

A massive improvement would be to have an average defense overall yet at SS, CF, RF, 2b we have guys that stand to be well above average with the other positions about average.  That'd be fine. 

I'll believe it when I see it. For now I have a sour taste in my mouth watching last years defense and knowing they got even worse doesn't make me too optimistic.

How is it even possible to give up an extra 0.75 runs/game over the previous year just from bad fielding? That's really impressive. How dependent is that stat on pitching though? Even with the world's greatest defenders Hanson and Blanton suck.

The defense was bad, but it being THAT bad has to somehow include how terrible the pitching was.

The problem with the OP are twofold:

1. Most of the projections per position are too optimistic.

2. Injuries. A lot of aging players add to increased injury risk. If Weaver and/or Wilson go down that is a massive drop off in production.
