Why are we getting into it with China?

Recommended Posts

The military has to find someway to spend its large budget, other than building fighter jets that go straight to a warehouse somewhere.

Was that the explanation you got in school today?  The jets don't go into storage; everybody knows we're selling them to the new Iraq so they can deliver nukes to us when we fight again in a few years!

When the U.S. wrote the Japanese constitution it was written that they cannot have offensive capabilities and cannot spend more than 1% GDP on defense so we really don't have a choice but to help them defend themselves. Not to mention that we don't need China thinking they can start bullying all of Asia.

I don't think that's possible. If it was they would already be doing it. They don't sell us stuff and keep our economy going because they like us.

You're right. At least half of their population lives in crushing poverty. There is a growing middle class, but the incomes are not close to Americans'. With all of our problems here, our people still have money to burn on Chinese goods.

Yes that's true. But if the Chinese were to sell US bonds, the purchasing power of the dollar would quickly drop against the Chinese yuan. This would allow the Chinese to buy their own products much more easily.

In case anyone was still wondering why we would get involved with this:

During the 2014-2019 period, Japan plans to buy three drones, likely a Global Hawk, as well as 28 F-35A fighters, 17 Osprey aircraft and five destroyers including two with Aegis anti-ballistic-missile systems. The purchases would cost 24.7 trillion yen ($247 billion), up 5 percent from the previous plan.

Hey! Surprise surprise!

Abe wants to be American so bad. His loose monetary policy along with this new military spending are going to run that country into the ground.
