Jays sign Navarro, looking to trade Arencibia

Recommended Posts

The Blue Jays have reached an agreement with catcher Dioner Navarro on a two-year deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter). Navarro is a client of Melvin Roman's MDR Sports Management."

"Toronto's agreement with Dioner Navarro on a two-year, $8MM contract earlier today immediately created speculation that J.P. Arencibia will be moved in advance of tonight's non-tender deadline, and Jon Heyman of CBS Sports tweets that the Blue Jays are indeed working to trade the powerful righty."

I was hoping that we'd talk to Navarro. Oh well.

Navarro is one of the best bargains this free agency.

He was the 2nd best hitting catcher with at least 250 PA. 136 wRC+ and .192 ISO for your catcher? Heck, I would take that production from our DH. The fact that he's always rated well defensively makes this a great deal.

They swapped Arencibia for Navarro and barely paid more to do so. Very good deal for the Jays.

One of the scenarios I had envisioned was signing Navarro then sending Iannetta to the Jays for Stroman.

Improves our catching and starting pitching situations.

The winter of my discontent continues.

Sigh.

I think it's best for Angels fans to just not hope for anything we want to happen to actually come to fruition.

I was hoping that by not posting much about what moves I wanted to have happen, they might actually happen.

Yes, as a baseball fan and a poker player, I AM superstitious (although a poker player, I believe it was Amarillo Slim, once said, "It's unlucky to be superstitious").

Now that I've said that, and I've been pretty vocal about not wanting any part of Bronson Arroyo, I expect him to be signed any day now.

Ok AO, since today is the day of mentoring for you, I'll bite. Why does Conger need a mentor and why isn't Iannetta it? Just because Iannetta isn't a great defensive catcher doesn't mean he can't coach, teach or mentor fundamentals? Conger seem to fine last year with Iannetta as his "Mentor". How many successful hitting coaches were good to great hitters themselves? The idea of everyone needing a mentor is beyond me, especially at this level. What the team really needs is professionals that come to the field every day, play hard and are willing to share their knowledge when necessary.

The attempt at reverse psychology was a valiant one, Mark. Unfortunately I think your 'Reaganing' period has come to an end (obscure 30 Rock reference).
