Makes sense. I didn't understand why Hughes would take two years unless he was getting a Lincecum type AAV.

The Angels shouldn't give him more than two years. I don't really want the Angels to give him two years (he would be way down on my list of options). He's been terrible in two of his past three years. He's too much of a gamble.

3/24 with an option year.  I am telling you, this is the guy that would succeed with the halos.  He's young and his GB, FB, LD, SO, BB rates are scarily similar to Weaver according to Fangraphs over the last five years.   The main divergence is his HR rate.  HMMMM, I wonder why that is.  He's not Weaver of course, but at 8mil per and the age of 28, he's a really good candidate to outperform that contract.

Over the past three seasons, his road numbers haven't been that good either (around 4.20 ERA, with a 1.35 WHIP). Actually, in 2012, his home numbers were significantly better than his road numbers.

Twins To Sign Phil Hughes

The Twins have agreed to a three-year, $24MM deal with Phil Hughes, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Star Tribune reports, citing an anonymous source.

A source with knowledge of the talks tells Neal that the Twins are expected to announce the deal this week, with Hughes expected to undergo a physical as early as this weekend.
