Probably not. They probably see Haren as a number 5 option. Must be nice.

Well, Haren gives them 4 starters locked in(him, Kershaw, Ryu, and Greinke) and they still have Beckett and Billingsley under contract for one more year each.

 

So I don't know that they would dive headfirst into the deep end of the pitching market, but then again they did do the same last year with Harang, Capuano, and Lilly all out of rotation jobs. So who knows.

Not a terrible deal. It's only 1 year so worst case scenario is he's ineffective and he's gone.

He finished the season well so I can see him bouncing back to at least a 2 WAR pitcher.

Haren after the ASB was pretty damn good. Would've been nice to take a flier on him. Good deal for the dogs.

All monies should now be converted into Blantons.  Pujols will only make 3.125 Blantons next year.  Doesn't sound as bad.

I've been advocating this idea as well. Hanson's contract ($3.9 million) is definitely tradeable.

I think the Dodgers move an OF for a SP instead. They current have Haren, Kershaw, Greinke and Ryu.

They'll still make a run at Tanaka I think.  If they don't get him, then they'll get a starter for kemp or eithier.

The money sounds outrageous until I remembered that all teams received television money this year.  It seems clear that the salaries thus far are reflecting the extra.  I think MLB and the Union should have raised the Competitive Balance Tax to reflect this.  The small market or "poor" teams will cry about it, but with teams like the Marlins and Astros hoarding cash, their opinions carry little weight.

I think this is decent deal for the Dodgers.  Hopefully, we can sign Bartolo to a similar deal.
