Those looking for reassurance won't find much here:

"Cards' GM John Mozeliak emphasized that the club pulled the trigger to add speed and center field capability, while noting that Grickhuk's inclusion was a "critical" factor in getting the deal done."

"While the two sides discussed including Aybar, writes Goold, the asking price was too steep for Mozeliak to bite. With both the Orioles and now the Angels having dangled a shortstop at St. Louis from a position of strength, and the expected free agent money for the few attractive options going higher by the day, Goold says we are seeing a clear seller's market at the position. His Post-Dispatch colleague Bernie Miklasz says that the Angels were eyeing Shelby Miller, making Mozeliak's refusal understandable."

"Dipoto also said that Freese "knows how to drive in the important run,"

I'm probably going to be completely tired of the nonsense about Freese "knowing how to drive in the important runs" before he actually steps foot on a baseball diamond in an Angels' uniform.

That narrative is going to get some serious mileage.

Yeah he had one flukey postseason 2 years ago. This year he hit around .190 in the playoffs, but no one mentions that.

Its all they can do until Spring Training starts and then the season.

I hate the offseason.    I need some baseball in my life.

Yea he was horrendous in the post-season.   He was pretty bad all around in 2013.   But it was a down year from a good 2011 season, a spectacular 2011 post-season, and a solid 2012 season.

Angels gave up a guy who was a platoon guy in Anaheim at best in 2014 for a 3B 2 years removed from WS MVP and 1 year removed from an All-Star year with 20HR.

Even if Freese sucks for you guys, you gave up someone who wasn't going to get much of a shot to play full time here.

Same goes for STL.  If Borjous completely sucks, all we gave up someone who was going to spend 2014 as an expensive platoon or bench bat in favor of Matt Carpenter and Kolten Wong.

Kolten Wang is a second baseman.

Of course, but Matt Carpenter has been manning 2nd and David Freese at 3rd so Kolten has been blocked.

Matt Carp is a natural 3rd basemen, but learned 2nd in the 2012/2013 off-season.

Mo wanted Kolten to get a chance at 500 ABs in 2014.    This would have made David a 4.5 million dollar bench bat.
