We must be close to signing a FA starting pitcher

nice, dipoto is listening finally.

I think kuroda would be good wirh a 1 year deal. I just hope it isnt back with the Dodgers.

I think the issue with that Shane is that forfeiting your 1st round draft pick for one year a 39 year old starter is extremely ill-advised.  Now if said pitcher keeps his ERA in the mid-3's or under and is willing to sign a 2-3 year deal then absolutely.  But for one year, I wouldn't do it, not unless it was the difference between playoffs and no playoffs, which the Angels need a bit more than Kuroda right now.

Just so we know, (and it totally may be coincidence) the order just came down this afternoon to begin scouting Hiroki Kuroda, specifically focusing on his second half starts.  It could be due diligence or it could be that Kuroda wants to return to So-Cal where his family lives.  I feel like the Angels would be extremely hesitant to abandon that draft pick and the only way they sign him is if he agrees to a 2-3 year pact.

I've wanted the Angels to sign Kuroda the last two years. Who says you can't find bargains on the free agent market?  The pick is tough, but you wouldn't need to give Kuroda as many years or total dollars as riskier pitchers like Ervin Santana... in addition to the pick.

I feel the same way.  Trying to temper my own excitement because the Angels are just now investigating him in a more thorough manner, and they do this with a lot of prospects and free agents.  It likely just means he's an avenue they can travel down if things swing their way, but it's far from a certainty.

It's a really tough pitching class this offseason. You're either overpaying for guys who don't deserve it or you're settling for less on guys like Arroyo. You can't settle for less because then a repeat of last years rotation happens again this year.

I'm still hoping they can find a good enough #3 pitcher and swing a deal with Ubaldo Jimenez if he doesn't get too expensive.
