Angels in on Eric Chavez?

Chavez signed for a hometown discount of $3 million with Arizona for 2013, but after another excellent season, he is said to be looking for market value this time.

Why would Heyman write this stuff? Chavez played in 80 games last season. That is not an excellent season, that is a bench player role  and not worth market value for a 3rd baseman.

Chevez is 36 in December, has a career of injuries since 2006 and is not capable of playing out an entire season. If you look at last season's month by month he had two good hitting months May 1.108 ops and July .824 ops. He missed June because of... injury! August and September he had back to back .508 and .558 ops months to end the season.

This guy is sucker bait.

I like Chavez and think he's a good ball player, but he doesn't fit what the Angels are looking for, not since 2006.  He's a platoon player, and would be an expensive one at that.  If any two players would platoon at 3B you'd think it'd be Grant Green and Luis Jimenez.

If the Angels signed Chavez you already know the outcome.  They'd have to pay 5+ million, he'd get hurt in Spring Training, come back in May, do absolutely nothing until Mid-June, catch fire until August, battle some nagging injuries that force ineffectiveness and eventually a spot on the bench and end the season on the DL.

Essentially that 5+ million you'd be paying would be for 6 weeks of good major league 3B production and 4 months of crap/DL.
