Braves secure public funding for new stadium

This is pretty interesting. This is the season ticket holder map and they are looking at putting the stadium closer access to those people. I wonder what that map looks like for the Angels.

It was built for the Olympics as a multipurpose stadium then retrofitted for baseball. It is, by most of the article comments, located in a lousy area with no real public access or parking.

Apparently it is a horrible time getting in and out of Turner Field, so the organization is aiming to make an easier way of getting to a park, but also they are moving towards the money. As that picture shows, the organization is moving to a place where the money is going to come in.

Closer as the crow flies, but look at the freeways. Not familiar with those roads, but is it really better to shunt everyone onto The Perimeter than let them funnel to the 75/85?

Arte pretty much got everything he asked for from the City of Anaheim so he's not going to move the team.

Arte is going to touch up the stadium and make millions developing restaurants and hotels around it while we struggle to find parking for about $25 per vehicle.

Having driven through there in 2000, I can vouch for the crappy parking. The area isn't horrible by any stretch.

I am in Atlanta enough for business and can tell you that the stadium is in a bad location. However you would need to move the stadium out of Georgia to find a good one.Today 9:43am

Turner Field is a nightmare to get to by car. The last game I went to I left an hour and a half before first pitch and only got there in the 3rd inning after spending over an hour in standstill traffic on 75/85. The new stadium would be right by my office, which is probably a bad thing.

The 75/85 though downtown is horrible. Its just as bad as the 91 during rush hour.

I'll be there. I remember the last time I went to an Angels game in Atlanta, Dallas McPherson was a homer shy of the cycle. Those were the days.

I went there for the ASG in 2000.  For the home run derby we parked in a private lot adjacent to the stadium.  We left a little before it was over and when we got back to the lot, an armed guard met us and walked us back to the car.  Needless to say, we took the subway to the stadium the next day.

Did you read the map? The people that live south of Turner field now have to drive further and completely across town. I am sure they aren't happy.
