So net gain on the farm = 0.

In today's game, draft picks are more valuable than anything else.

So continue to play .500 baseball with a 186M payroll so we can have prospects that may or may not pan out 5 years from now? Sounds like an awesome strategy to contend now with.

McCann doesn't fix the problem.

So when this current "talent" runs out, what do you rely on?  This strategy is 100% backwards.

Are you choosing to ignore the remainder of my ideas? I never said just get McCann. Obviously that is all you chose to read.

Signing McCann is a step backwards, no matter how you choose to look at it.

Also, what's the big problem with Iannetta/Conger?

Scott, think outside the box a little bit will ya? If you sign McCann, you can trade Iannetta ($5M salary), as well as either Kendrick or Aybar ($8M salary) and include one of Bourjos or Trumbo in the deal. (preferably Trumbo since his arb numbers should be higher going forward). That's 3 valuable trade assets that the Angels can trade for young, affordable and solid starting/relief pitching. Backload the McCann deal and you get salary cap room to sign another starter.

Iannetta's trade value is not >>>> 80M and a draft pick.  Sorry.

Exactly. It'd be a great signing and it will improve our pitching staff. McCann has handled some pretty good pitchers.

Although, I'd trade Bourjos before Trumbo and Kendrick before Aybar.
