His game plays better in the NL, but, you gotta wonder if the team that signed Pulols to 100 mil contract and Holliday to a 120 million dollar deal would consider paying as much as 135 mil to a weak stick SS as "club friendly."   Particularly given the decline curves of most weak stick SS after age 30.

Plays better in the NL? You mean in the NL shortstops are not required to be league average for $15 million a year? His slugging percentage last season was about the same as Trout's batting average.

Scherzer is a pretty good starter, but this was the first year where he was more than "pretty good". It's possible that he has broken out and reached his full potential but just two years ago he had a 1.35 WHIP and a 93 ERA+. This is also the first time he has pitched more than 200 innings in a season.

I would love for him to be on the Angels, but Detroit is going to ask for the moon for him, if they really do try to trade him.

This!  I doubt Detroit trades him anyway, but if they did, I'd certainly welcome him to Anaheim.  But Detroit is clearly looking to sell high here.

I would absolutely do that trade. Detroit wouldn't though. Not after this season.

To be honest I find it mind-boggling that the Tigers are even considering a trade of Scherzer. The owner wants to win before he dies and there is absolutely no reason they couldn't see the postseason again if they kept Scherzer for 2014.

Perhaps they see a regression coming and want to sell high? Seems odd.

The Rangers are looking for offensive firepower at the GM Meetings, writes Richard Durrett of ESPNDallas.com. “More or less we’ve been telling clubs our short-term needs are more on the offensive side,” GM Jon Daniels said. “We have some depth in a couple of areas organizationally and at the big league level. We’re open to different ideas.” Here's more out of the AL West..

The Rangers and Cardinals remain strong potential trade partners with the Cards wanting Jurickson Profar or Elvis Andrus and Texas liking Shelby Miller, Oscar Taveras, and Matt Adams, tweets Jim Bowden of ESPN.com.

This is actually kind of good news. Adams? Sure. But miller and tavares aren't hoing anywhere.

I think aybar to the cards for kelly (for example) makes a TON more sense for them than any of the guys they're targetting for andrus. (And I like andrus).

I know profar is a highly rated prospect, but would he be worth miller or taveras?....

Which likely means Angel fans can stop dreaming about an Erick Aybar and Shelby Miller swap. The Cards nixed a possible deal with Aybar last deadline and unless the Angels lower their asking price or the Cards get desperate it isn't going to happen.

I don't recall any Angels fan thinking Aybar for Miller would be enough.  Most said Aybar/Bourjos for Miller.

Realistically, it would probably take something like Aybar, Bourjos, and Cowart to even get the talks started.

I'd still do that trade, but I guess we have to remember that the Cards don't HAVE to trade Miller at all. He's young and cost controlled.

I think it's pretty reasonable to expect 4-7 WAR from Bourjos & Aybar next year at a reasonable cost. Miller was worth 2 this season according to fWAR. Miller is the most valuable property in a potential trade but the Angels are giving up a lot more total value in that deal.

Obviously I'm not sure StL. would do it, but it is definitely a good offer. Also I'm not sure Cowart sweetens the pot much.
