Well, I guess it's technically starting pitching depth of some sort. I mean Volstad sucks, but so does just about every other pitcher who could be a candidate to start a game beyond Jerome, at least for the early part of the season.

 

And oh wow, dude is still only 27. I feel like he's been around FOREVER.

by itself, I agree, and we don't know what the rest of the offseason will bring.  if you're detecting some cynicism among the troops, it's because the Angels have done an awful lot of dumpster diving the last couple years.  Dontrelle Willis anyone?  No, these moves don't ultimately hurt anyone or adversely affect the team, it's just kind of pathetic that that's where we are.

This is fine since he's not going to be on the 40 man, unlike that lefty reliever they signed recently who sucked as a starter in the minors and had ONE decent season as a reliever so far.

Ironic that he was the 16th overall pick in 2005, the same overall pick the Halos have in 2014. 

I sure as heck hope that 16th overall pick turns out to be better than this.

 

One thing is for sure, he's a high GB/FB ratio pitcher who can't K batters.  

For Colo Springs in 2013, he didn't even reach 5 Ks/9 innings.

Volstad isn't much help. It seems like long ago when he was fairly highly touted. I didn't even know he was still in baseball.
