Angels hire Rick Eckstein

Sources: Rick Eckstein joining #Angels’ coaching staff. I do not yet know position. His brother David won World Series with Angels in 2002.

Looks like he was a hitting coach for the Nationals, an Olympic Team, a WBC team.  He also coached four different minor league teams.  Oh and he is also the assistant hitting coach and least that is what I am assuming.  I have no problem with it, but if you'd like to argue the definition of extensive, by all means.

Rick H. Eckstein (born March 4, 1973) is the former hitting coach for the Washington Nationals of Major League Baseball. Eckstein took over as the hitting coach in September 2008, after serving as the Columbus Clippers hitting coach. He also was the hitting coach on the United States national baseball team in the 2008 Olympics. Eckstein is an alumnus of the University of Florida. He is the older brother of former major leaguer David Eckstein. On July 22, 2013 he was relieved of his post.[citation needed]

On December 8, 2010, Eckstein donated his right kidney to his brother, Ken, who is currently suffering from a renal disease.[citation needed]

He was a bullpen catcher and batting practice pitcher for the rays and twins

I'm guessing those two positions still do some coaching.  I guess I could be wrong.  Throw those out and he still has "extensive" coaching experience.  Which of course means nothing if he can't help get results.

Bullpen catchers and BP pitchers do not coach. 

 

I wouldn't call 5 years in the majors extensive and majors is really all that matters. IMO

I still don't see why this is awesome.
