Jason Vargas is officially a free agent, with no ties to Draft pick compensation, and the Angels will face some stiff competition. They've made it clear to Vargas for quite some time that they'd like to bring him back, but the remaining holes on their roster and the lack of wiggle room on their payroll give them little desire to overpay.
