Olney: Trumbo & Bourjos on Trade Block

Recommended Posts

I've been a Bourjos fan since he first got up here, but if you can flip him for a #3/4 starter and a bullpen arm that's a no-brainer, gotta make the trade.

I agree with that. We need pitching in a bad way and if you can move both of those guys and get two quality young starters, even if they don't project to be anything other than very solid #3 guys, then make the move.

This is expected. Bourjos and Trumbo should be traded before Calhoun.

Jerry Dipoto's career as a GM might depend upon his ability to transform Bourjos, Trumbo, and Howie Kendrick into a good starter and a couple very good relievers.

Calhoun's value is at the highest it'll ever be right now. It probably makes sense to trade him if they can get a team to bite.

Bourjos should have far more trade value than Trumbo.

However, Ruben Amaro might be salivating over Trumbo's ribbies and might offer his entire farm system -- you never know.

Bourjos has more trade value over a guy who's been healthy and has been a top power producer the past 3 years? Edited by The God of Runs

Yea, I see what you are saying AO, but getting a solid 4th outfielder isn't that difficult. Even if you have to take a chance on a guy to rebound like Hart, to be your 4th outfielder that is still better than going into next season without the starting pitching depth needed to compete.

Power is not the only skill set that matters in baseball. Bourjos has far more defensive value, is a better base runner and gets on base more than Trumbo. Getting hit and breaking one's wrist does not equal injury prone.

Additionally, as the MLB trade rumors post correctly stated, arbitration rewards power far more than defense. Bourjos will be a far better value $$ wise in the next three years.

If Shuck is projected to be anything more than a part time 4th OF this offseason is a FAIL. Dude really should only be a 5th OF.

It's comments like this that are so ridiculous. So, the Angels trade for a couple of starters and a bullpen and sign Tanaka, but if Shuck is our fourth outfielder then we failed during the off season. Sweet logic.

I totally agree.  Shuck is needed to lead off, and he's more than proved himself in the outfield.  He, Calhoun and Trout provide a lot of the team's energy.
