Do we really need this anymore, other than to give the networks a chance to sell more commercials?  It's essentially a free time-out.  It bugs me, for some reason.

The whole clock play is stupid with when they decide to stop it or let it run based on what point of the game it is.

A three hour game that only has 11 minutes of actual play.

You keep making that point but really Soccer is no different.  It is 45 minutes of continuous play but of that there are really only five minutes of actual action per half.  The rest is just passing back and forth.  Plus injuries and whistle stoppages happen, the clock just keeps running.  In football they are 30 minute halves that last about an hour.

 

It is a multi billion dollar industry thanks to advertising, the actual stoppages make them tons of money.  I enjoy soccer but it is not like it is more entertaining than football, football has much more action.  Same with hockey.

It's not even close comparing the two. There are no huddles or switching player personnel where the clock is running during down time where dudes are standing around. There's legit studies on actual play in sports, I'm not making this up. And play that is stopped in soccer is accounted for and played at the end of each half.

Don't go NFL super fan and act dumb with calling it "just passing back and forth" when you're in the soccer threads giving Chelsea play by play updates of scoring chances and goals.

Entertaining is subjective, more action isn't.

Yes there are what 5-10 scoring chances in each game?  And stoppages are not made up for at the end of the half in stoppage time.  I have seen plenty of times where a guy goes down for several minutes and only 2-3 minutes are added to the end of the half.  Not to mention all of the dives and the time it takes to setup a free kick, etc.

 

I didn't say I don't enjoy watching it but claiming that soccer has that much more action is laughable.
