Watched the movie and thought it was awesome. A couple nitpicks here and there but visually, one of the best films I've seen ever I'd say. And the film is actually incredibly tense. If you enjoy the craft of filmmaking as well, there's a ton to love in this. The movie opens with a 15+minute long take and it's pretty great to take in.

 

I didn't love Clooney and Bullock but they were in no way bad. Would put this among my Top 5 of the year so far.

Sounds like a good movie. Seems like one that needs to be seen in the theater too.

It's not much the special effects, but the visuals. It's not Avatar where you see it for special effects, in this one, there's enough story to grasp you, but it's the action and tense feeling the film gives you mixed with the great visuals and film-making technique and ability of Alfonso Cuaron.
