What would it take to get this guy from Florida? He has had three very good seasons in a row and is still quite young. Any chance Calhoun could form the centerpiece of a deal?

I wouldn't do it straight up. Plus Marlins now have Ozuna, Stanton, Yelich, Ruggiano, Marisnick. We don't match up well. I would look at Glen Perkins of the Twins.

Struggling to think of the last time a team traded a starting position player for a reliever and it worked out well for them.

the marlins are nowhere near competing for anything.  they probably don't really want guys even remotely close being arb eligible.  They would want a couple of prospects that the halos can't afford to give up.  Getting guys with only two to three years of club control left doesn't do them any good at this point. 

 

They have one of the worst offenses in the history of baseball.  The 6th and 7th highest WAR for offensive players are Henderson Alvarez and Jose Fernandez at 0.5 and 0.4 each with less than 60 plate appearances.  They had six non pitchers with a WAR above 0.0.  Their team offensive WAR was -0.7. 

 

One, two, three or even four players are barely going to make a dent.
