i think thats accurate but i still think the current staff are bums.

the dugout looks like a funeral. weaver screaming at butchy after one of his productive trips to the mound after which weave immediately gave up 2 runs to ultimately get the loss. commentary by ex-players- "If they are looking for the problem they don't have to look any further than the fat man"
consistent under achivement especially in the first 3 months of the season.

detached, apathetic affect of staff in the coaching boxes and in the dugout.

I think the best (but still pretty nebulous) proof of Bucher's incompetence is in the bullpen's performance during his time here, and the fact that it's been pretty shaky ever since he came on board.  RPs need to the most day-to-day tweaking/coaching, and thus that's where a itching coach makes the most impact.  One could argue it's been a personnel/talent issue, but when you look at the last time our BP was lights out, it's not like it was loaded with premium names.

What would Butcher have done with the 2002 staff?    One that really, really overachieved under Bud Black's watch, and nearly won the AL team ERA title.

I don't get that either. A man's performance on the field as a player has nothing to do with his ability to teach the game. Some of the best managers and coaches were marginal major leaguers, and some never made it to the majors. Great players tend to not be the best of teachers since they relied more heavily on their physical gifts, which you cannot teach.

Ted Williams may have been exhibits A, B, and C.    Granted he only managed bad Senators/Rangers teams.

He was not looked at positively in any way with regards to coaching.

sometimes the guys with great talent can't put up with people of lower talent levels.

to me, at age 21-26 name recognition with a former good player would go a long way toward valuing thier commentary and teaching regarding my game.
