“I think it’s going to be another thing like last year,” Trout said before Sunday’s season finale against the Texas Rangers. “I can’t take it away from Cabrera. He won the division and is going to the playoffs, and we’re heading home after the game. That’s a big contribution, being on a winning team.”

This won't be a problem for Trout when he signs with the Dodgers, Red Sox or Yankees after the 2017 season.

You're generally pretty astute when it comes to actual baseball stuff, which makes it pretty baffling that you exhibit such relative silliness when talking about this.

A lot can change in 4 years. For instance, 4 years ago...

-the Angels were in the ALCS.

-the A's finished 22 games behind the Angels

-the MARINERS won 85 games

-the Twins won 86 games and the Royals won 65

-the Pirates won 32 fewer games than they did this year

The ONLY guy that's on the books past 4 years is Pujols. Why can't some of you seem to realize that when evaluating whether or not we can afford to sign Trout? If this organization makes moves that make it more competitive and treats Trout with respect as time goes on, if it offers him a fat check that kicks in four years from now, there's a damn good chance he sticks with the Angels.

Stop being such babies.

Unfortunately that is not true:

Trout already starting to talk to the media like he's more important than the team.

Clubhouse leaders don't generally accuse their teammates of being the reason they don't win individual awards.

That's a little disturbing, and out of character for him, IMO.

He was pretty much stating the truth. If his teammates don't like being told they suck, that is on them.

After this season? No it's not. Not at all. Not even a little bit.

Not reaching for anything.

I like Trout, and have nothing against him. I don't blame him a bit for what he said, and I agree it was true.

It was still surprising.  You don't see clubhouse leaders trash their own team like that very often when talking about why they don't get individual accolades, whether you understand it or not.

It should make him feel better that Cabrera would've won it even if the Halos had made the playoffs.  Trout is clearly the best baseball player in the AL, but that doesn't matter for the MVP.  It's not fair, but that's the way it is.

you do realize he was including himself in his team's failure.  He was trashing himself as much as he was the rest of the team.

Fair point. Fair criticism.
