Giants extend Hunter Pence 5 years 90 million

A big contract for a lot of years..........but Pence has been pretty much lights out this year........

it will be interesting to see where Lincecum lands........(pinstripes and not for a huge contract -- Lincecum turned a real big longer term contract/ extension from Giants down last off-season -- big mistake -- but Yankees or someone will likely over-pay for Lincecum on a one or two year deal with options).

The Giants are trying to sign Lincecum.

Giants, Tim Lincecum Talking Extension
By Zach Links [september 28 at 1:57pm CST]

The GIants locked up Hunter Pence earlier today, but they're not done just yet.  With the outfielder taken care of, the Giants are now discussing a new deal with pitcher Tim Lincecum, a source tells Hank Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter).  As theMLBTR Agency Database shows, both players are represented by the Beverly Hills Sports Council.

Lincecum's value obviously isn't where it once was, but he has helped his stock this season with an improved performance over his 2012 effort.  So far in 2013, the 29-year-old has posted a 4.37 ERA with 8.8 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 versus a 5.18 ERA with 9.2 K/9 and 4.4 BB/9 last season.  Meanwhile, his FIP (3.73), xFIP (3.56), and SIERA (3.75) are all better than his 2013 ERA as well as his 2012 marks.

While The Freak hasn't quite regained his Cy Young form, he has certainly shown that he can be a contributor for the Giants or any club going forward.  A recent MLBTR poll pitting Lincecum against Ubaldo Jimenez showed that most readers would prefer the San Francisco notable over the Indians hurler this winter.

yeah, they previously offered him a pretty good sized multi-year contract extension which he turned down........he'd be fortunate to get even half of what was offered previously.

Given the history, not sure if Giants can get this done.

But then Linceum seems like the kind of guy who could probably walk away from the game, live on the money's he's made and be just fine with it all.

Pence's numbers will suffer in that ballpark.

Dunno he's had a pretty solid year there.

He's been as valuable as josh Hamilton the past 3 years, and obviously we paid slightly more than 90 million. I don't think it's an overpay but it's definitely not a discount either. He's a very solid role player and his agent knew what that was worth

The Angels extremely overpaid for hunter at the time, but it ended up working out for the angels, which doesn't happen often.

Everyone blasted the dodgers for signing Ethier to 85 million. They're pretty comparable players.

The giants probably overpaid slightly.for pence.
