UPDATE: Alex Pavlovic of the San Jose Mercury News reports that the two sides have agreed to a deal, pending a physical.

1:28 p.m. ET: FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal adds that it would be a five-year, $90 million deal.

1:18 p.m. ET: CBS Sports’ Jon Heyman reports that the Giants and Pence are “closing in” on a $90 million deal. The contract would carry an AAV (average annual value) of $18 million per season, topping Andre Ethier‘s five-year, $85 million ($17 million AAV) extension from last year. Pence’s new deal will likely set the bar for a free agent like Shin-Soo Choo this winter.

Exact contract Torii got from us. I think he'll live up to it more than Torii did.

Torii Hunter Angels 2008-2012 stats .286/.352/.462./814

Hunter Pence Career .285/.339/.475./814

So far Pence has hardly lived up to what Torii gave the Angels and you think he will do better than his prime years?

Torii did. No reason Hunter Pence can't.

Don't think it was that ridiculous of a comment.

To play devil's advocate here, Torii's career numbers prior to coming to the Angels were worse than Pence's career line.

And Pence will be 2 years younger than Torii was at the start of the contract.

Yes, yes I do. Pence is younger to start the contract and overall numbers before the contract are better than Torii's.

A big contract for a lot of years..........but Pence has been pretty much lights out this year........

it will be interesting to see where Lincecum lands........(pinstripes and not for a huge contract -- Lincecum turned a real big longer term contract/ extension from Giants down last off-season -- big mistake -- but Yankees or someone will likely over-pay for Lincecum on a one or two year deal with options).
