Huge games today for several teams in the hunt.

Texas and Kansas City, no score in the 7th inning. Royals are barely hanging in at 3.5 games back. Texas is a half-game out of the 2nd WC.

Cleveland is winning handily over Houston, 8-2. Indians look good.

Yankees and Giants are tied at 1 through seven. Almost every game is a must-win for NY at this point.

Baltimore is getting shut out by the Rays. Orioles need lots of things to go right.

KC wins that must win game today vs. Texas with grand slam walk off..........

Cleveland is sitting pretty -- they have SIX games remaining -- having just SWEPT the LASTROS in a four game series, the Indians now have two against the White Sox who are trying to avoid a 100 loss season and 4 against the Twins.....Cleveland has a 1.5 game lead and a nice schedule advantage........Indians should go at least 4-2 in these games, if not better.

Texas -- collapsing down the stretch here has a three game set against the LASTROS who Texas has pretty much owned all season -- but then a four game series at Arlington against the Halos who have ZERO pressure on them and are on a roll right now playing essentially the equivalent of March spring training games since about August 15........I say the Halos at least split in Texas. So expect Texas to have something like a 5-2 record (at best) over their last seven games.

KC - about 3 games out after today's win play 3 against Seattle and 4 against the White Sox. Royals have been playing good ball in August/September -- really don't have that much pressure on them because no one expects them to make the playoffs  -- they could easily go 6-1 or so over their final 7 games.......enough to make it close but no cigar.

Yankees and O's are now in a situation where they pretty much have to win out and that may not be enough.

Yankees have three against Tampa Bay (at Tampa Bay) and final three games at Houston.

If they could sweep Tampa Bay (tall order) they could win out.

The Friday night game (I think) is slated to be Andy Pettite's final major league start -- fittingly it comes against Houston at Houston where Pettite had some good years -- Oberholtzer is slated to be the Houston starter -- on any other team in MLB, Oberholtzer would be a 15 to 20 game winner - he's had some really good starts this season.......

so that should be a good ballgame..........

Looking at the schedule, I wouldn't count the Yankees out yet -- despite today's tough 2 to 1 loss (with two Yankees tossed out at home in the 8th inning today).

But they pretty much have to sweep Tampa Bay.........
