I'm not sure which kind of type A free agent that would cost the Angels their first round draft pick is actually available. Cano? Ellsbury? Zobrist? Choo? Lester? Nathan?

Wait, Zobrist is intriguing - a 5.3 WAR this year. The Angels could play him at 3B, or trade Kendrick.

Is it a deep draft? A #15-18 draft pick isn't so great in a shallow draft.

I think with the new rules it's basically determined by which teams offer their free agents "qualifying" offers (1 year, 13.3 million). Cano and Ellsbury are locks for that, and I would say Choo would be as well.

Zobrist has team options for the next 2 years at 7 million a piece.

Can't imagine why the Rays wouldn't take that.

We are winning.  Now we slot in the 15ish range for the draft pick - which is not protected.

Don't even think about doing anything stupid, Arte.

When I saw the thread title, I thought that Scott had gone to Milwaukee and that he had shaken every player's hand this afternoon as he headed to the clubhouse.

Cano, Ellsbury, and Choo will for sure get a qualifying offer.

Garza on the other hand is up for grabs since he was traded in the middle of the season.
