So I was driving down I-5 last week...

Recommended Posts

Last Tuesday, returning from the Bay Area visiting family. A few miles south of Patterson, suddenly traffic comes to a complete stop. 100 degrees outside and nothing is moving. Then the usual 2-5 mph crawl. Thirty minutes later, a sign: "Road Work Ahead". Twenty minutes after that, "Right Lane Closed". Ten minutes after that, I see two CHP officers on the side of the road by their cars just shooting the breeze. Then up ahead, a few workers OFF THE ROADWAY, scraping gravel on the shoulder by a little bridge. That was it. That was the entirety of the "road work" that tied up traffic for more than a hour on a blistering hot August afternoon in the San Joaquin Valley.

I consider myself fortunate that I was a driving a rental car, as my old Civic surely would have overheated.
