Ducks sign Getzlaf to an extension!

Very happy about this. Of the two, I wanted to keep Getzy... he is much more versatile than Perry. With Palmieri and possibly a short term veteran replacement for Perry next season, the Ducks shouldn't lose a beat going forward without Perry.

Now let's go win a Cup!!!

nice!

you knew this was coming, getz is totally rooted in OC with his wife and little ones.

if perry wants to play closer to family back east, thats fine. hopefully they can sign him, but if not, oh well.

we make a run for the cup this year.

getz, ryan, hiller, fowler is a hell of a young core.

The thing is, I think Corey will test the waters first to see what he can get elsewhere. I don't see him re-signing before the season is over.

But if that's the case, then why would any team give up anything much of value for him?  It he is going to test free agency, then he will just be a rental on whatever team trades for him.  I don't think any team will give up huge value for a rental.

Other possibility, we keep Perry, and trade for another piece since we have cap room, and make a real push this season.  This is where Hiller may come into play.

I am not familiar at all with NHL free agent rules.  Do the Ducks get compensation if we lose Perry?

That's been my argument all along gotbeer. People think teams will trade a king's ransom for him before the deadline. Fact is, they just won't.

As far as compensation, I don't believe it's like baseball.

If it comes down to choosing between Perry and Ryan. I pick Perry 10 times out of 10. I'd trade Bobby if it meant freeing up enough cash to lock Perry up for 8 years. Perry is a franchise winger; Bobby is not at this point

I completely agree with this even though I'll have to buy a new Jersey if Bobby is traded.
