CJ Wilson appreciation thread

A good signing for once.

 

I think he is performing as we expected. No better, no worse.

 

He is getting a lot of money, but at least he is pitching at career norms.

He's been a solid presence in the rotation. 

 

With Weaver, Wilson, and Richards you have the begginning of a solid 5 man rotation.  If they can retain Vargas, even better.

 

However, they need at least one more elite-ish arm to make it solid going into 2014.

I would really love for the Angels to get a legit number 2 and push Wilson to the 3 spot in the rotation (of course it doesn't really matter who pitches where). Re-sign Vargas and then have Richards as the 5th starter.

 

I'm not sure who would be willing to give up a pitcher like that though for something like Kendrick + Frieri. Wei-Yin Chen would be great if the O's are desperate enough. Probably not though.

I would like for the Angels to have a legit ace, as I don't think Weaver really fits that bill any more. I prefer to have Weaver as #2.

I wouldn't call his contract a bargain but it's not bad by any means. It's probably a wash at this point.

If Lindsey is ready, I could see packaging Trumbo and Kendrick to get that pitcher, moving Green to 3B, and Hamilton to DH.

Pirates could use upgrades at 2B and in the power area.

Then a veteran leader for the pen would be next.

That would be funny and kinda weird since I was friends with him in High School and played baseball against him in little league. He's definitely a solid pitcher but I see him as being more of a solid number 5 in the long term. He doesn't miss a whole lot of bats and his walk rate is pretty alarming.

yep.  need a top of the rotation starter.  someone similar to Weaver and CJ and you have to retain Vargas or trade for an equivalent.  Ideally, you move Vargas on waivers for someone near major league ready anyway.
